I think you're a bit younger than me Shaka? Otherwise you would remember that if you grew up in that area I reckon, one of those things where there must be a cut off date where you have to have been born before x to remember it.

Comic books is the opposite of my speciality but I'm sure there is a guy who goes after superheroes, one of you geeks must know who I mean?

So what about the west london car guy?
That is a proper vigilante scenario to consider - he's got off scotfree apparently

Assuming he isn't some maniac who just happens to have hurt the right person this time, I think it's probably the correct decision. The bloke was stabbing a woman to death and could well have turned his attention to others too, perhaps even running into the school.

yeah right. these are the examples that come to mind for me when you broaden this discussion out to places like that. can think of specific examples eg in kabul where someone was beaten to death on the street in the town center because of a rumour that she had desecrated a koran, totally untrue but the guys on the street kicked her to death. her name was farkhunda. i was in a town called briala slatina or something like that in northern bulgaria and someone beat a roma guy to death in the village square. no idea what the story was there. my town in bangladesh had a mob justice thing going on where they surrounded the police station and killed six policement i think. it totally depends on where you're talking about but in general a legal system seems preferable to me.
Yeah... how did the rumour get started? Malicious or accidental?

"Oh shit... no no no I didn't say "desecrated" I said... oh it's too late..? Oops. Well that is very unfortunate."

It's all there in that video, he's not saying "Thank goodness I have saved loads of boys and girls from your predation and hopefully you can now get the help that you need" he's focusing a lot more on the "I'm here to ruin your life" aspect... any saving of children long forgotten.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if a lot of these brave dispensers of justice go through life leaving a trail of battered girlfriends, innocent pub-goers they've glassed after they looked at them for a millisecond too long, probably some badly mistreated dogs...

= the working classes shouldn't be permitted to police others' behaviour informally as those who would perform this kind of activism are irrevocably violent degenerates prone to a distastefully inaesthetic sadism, whereas the middle classes...?

The middle classes know that the police are underfunded, overstretched and partway incompetent but they won't venture within sniffing distance of the festering sores on society's underbelly for fear of the stench sticking to them.
