woopsie can walk into any pub in n16, and this is no exaggeration, and there will be an elderly alcoholic he knows and can sit down and have a drink with. theres is no pub in the world i can do that in. im not sure if thats a good thing or a bad thing but its one of the major differences between us, hes a social butterfly and an extrovert i am an extreme recluse
This shows a total misunderstanding of N16 pub culture though. There are 20 pubs where your chance of meeting a friendly old geezer are nil and one where the probability is 100% which is the one I've just left. Also I'd like to point out that extreme introvert @luka is always liable on a night out to suddenly start a long conversation with a barmaid or passing coach driver leaving me alone looking at my watch for an hour.

unfortunately its irish cunt day so the pub i went into was blasting out enya and U2 so im taking refuge in a friends house with some lagers
One of the unforeseen advantages of living in Portugal is that today someone said "It's St Patrick's Day today" and I said "Oh, is it?" and carried on having a completely normal day blissfully uninterrupted by any wankers in green hats doing anything at all.

@Simon silverdollarcircle how are you finding pub life in your new village? or is it so terrifying you are forced to do all your drinking at home like oliver craner?
I do tend to prefer drinking at home because that way I can listen to music I like and chuckle at how clever and witty my thoughts are in peace

I've been to a few pubs since the move and my main reflection is there's:

-less of a gakky mood than in London. You really notice how gakky London pubs are when you're not around them anymore

-almost as a contradiction to the first point, more people talk to you. Not keen on this at all of course.

One annoying thing about bars where I am is when some deaf old person sits nearby and starts flicking through their socials with the volume at full blast when I'm trying to read my book in peace. Old people shouldn't be allowed to have mobile phones, they're actually more annoying than the teenagers.

I was in the waiting room at the doctor's the other day and some old woman was watching some rubbish Latin American soap at full blast on her mobile. But you can't say anything to old people can you?

Just old people and technology full stop, really.

Maybe people shouldn't be allowed to use any technology developed after they turned, say, 40 or something? Unless they've passed an exam in basic proficiency.
