Something horrifying about a total product of the system people are seeking liberation from being touted as liberatory.

This is the same person who crossed a picket line to attend a party, wore a blood diamond for a photo shoot and has an estimated net worth of around half a billion.

Bonkers.

Re: mum dance, Kylie obv (she was there early with spinning around)
I don't listen to her but she released an album during lockdown that was apparently a disco thing and the same claims were made of that as this beyonce album, ie after the rigors of lockdown we needed to dance so give thanks to kylie etc. Shes not beyonce though and didnt really make any connections (no matter how superficial) to gay culture or wider politics so the think pieces weren't abundant.

i think beyonce is worse than just 'not for me', i think she's actively shite. always an odd experience with this kind of thing, where a pop superstar also gets music critic and broader cultural acclaim, on top of universal popularity, because it increases the pressure to figure out the mystery and understand what it is that so many people like about it.

for me there's nothing there, no wider meaning, no cultural significance, not a case of just opening your perspective a bit and giving it a chance. too many foghorn vocal explosions, too saccharine in general. generally very H&M production as well, to draw on what someone else in this thread said.

i like this one though

liberation politics is a fantasy. communists are not liberationists, and should reject such an approach. unfortunately, exiting the vampire castle did not understand this.

I was hoping that Boris stayed on until the very bitter end to take both the tories and labour with him. COWARD!

I actually was into that album, although never listen to any of it now – Partition, Drunk in Love, Blow, Mine, XO, Pretty Hurts...

I will say that her videos take the song up a notch. Very expensive and professionally done. Like the production on her songs actually.

I'm not really into her stuff though, based on what little I've heard (Solange FTW) I do feel like there's a committee-ish feeling to her music.

Loved this one back in the day too

I'm kind of confused as to why she didn't call the album Beynaissance or would that be too on the nose?

Also maybe would suggest that she herself needed a Renaissance which wouldn't do at all

Don't really like the actual song but I love the intro to this

Good demonstration of the arthistory aesthetic of a lot of her/jay-z's videos

do you like beyonce? what do you like about her?

Don't feed the troll.

Many black people don't like her either, but uncomfortable reality for the poptimist knobheads. White people disavowing fellow whites is the most irritating trick in the book, even more irritating than the stuff omen criticises Luke for.

Anyway my problem isn't with Beyonce the artist, but Beyonce the american imperialist brand.

Symbolic photo of the month material. Looking forward to the inevitable forthcoming Vigilant Citizen article on this album.

have you posted a vigilent citizen article on ilx? what was the reception like?

Also where is RTC at? only sensible poster on that place.

I haven't been on ilx for many years, but the thought of posting a paedogeddon VC article in the middle of an ilx pop thread is hilarious though. I nominate you to do it.

RTC was easily the best ilx poster, but he disappeared a few years ago afaik

Nah, it needs to be someone with cultural cachet. otherwise the admins will just redact it.

You know any disgruntled ex-ilxers?

Is it also time to suggest that Timbaland can lay claim to being a house auteur? Justin Timberlake - Sexy Back basically sounds like a UK funky tune if you add a few extra drum fills in.

Sexy back needs a good remix to sound like a house song.

I don't like beyonce. I never will i think. Staggeringly overrated. I prefer rihanna (much stronger vocal character) or charli xcxx. Dua lipa even (again, just a more interesting vocal presence, one that owes sonething to Rihanna actually). But I dont like mick jagger either. Despite that, both beyonce and the stones have many good records. Just not as many as some will have you believe.
