I assume Castle Hill is a hill fort, then?
700px-Castle_Hill_2003-11-12_14-04-25_P1210664.jpg

Yes, there's some legends associated with it, that it was an ancient burial mound and also one of the places that this indomitable tribe held out against the Romans/ However, could also not be that, cos there's no real evidence

Queen Cartimandua of the Briganitines is said to have used the hill as her stronghold during the Brigantine Civil War against her ex-husband Venutius.

Cartimandua was a client ruler of the Romans. When she handed the fugitive Caratacus over to Rome, Venutius divorced her. She took his brothers and kinfolk captive, which led to civil war between 55 - 71 AD.

However, no archaeological evidence has been found of this and as the fort was abandoned around 400 BC, it seems unlikely.

More recently, I was chatting to this guy in the head shop about the magic woods and he said that he'd done some leyline work on Castle Hill and he said he calculated that those woods and Castle Hill were in a line with some other local feature. And he said the force round there was strong.

I ended up watching a tour of the most expensive house in America last night and felt physically sick. The thing was so excessive I couldn't get my head around it. You'd have to hire a huge team of people just to keep it clean and you'd only ever be occupying a fraction of it at any one time. The place is like a maze.

I completely agree with this. I reckon a lot of the time we watch these videos of billionaires, I dunno, driving round in their solid gold ferraris and getting sucked off by two supermodels at once while a third one blows cocaine up their nose for them and a fourth feeds them beluga caviar with a mother-of-pearl spoon and we all go "Oh that's awful, it's so tacky" but probably most of us would give it a go once if someone twisted our arms...

But, this thing with the houses I don't get at all. What is the point of having all those extra rooms? Places that you never visit? I mean, you wonder if there are bits of their own house that they have never visited at all. It just seems so stupid. I get that it's a status symbol - who cares if you like it, it's gotta be bigger then Zuckerberg's regardless. But it's fucking mental. I mean, does extreme wealth trap you so much that you have to use it to do stuff you don't like? I think that it's just impossible to have a home beyond a certain size, it can't be homely if you don't know your way round it properly.... rooms that are always empty (or just occupied by servants cleaning or wanking in your cocktails) will automatically be sterile won't they?

I wonder, is there any billionaire who just has a really good house? Not a palace but just a cool place to live and hang out, built on a human scale and nice. I dunno, four or five bedrooms, a couple of bathrooms, a couple of living rooms. Nice rooms, probably big even, but not so big that you feel as though you've somehow ended up in Brobdingnag. Sure, have a swimming pool but one that is fun to swim in - have a tennis court or a bowling alley if you like tennis or bowling, but if you don't, don't stick 'em in there for the sake of it.

And so on. I mean, a guy like Musk who thinks he's a maverick but still has to conform to the expected billionaire house conventions I reckon.

I heard some interview with him where he said he was selling all his houses and renting cos houses are an "attack vector"

i think it means that if everyone knows where he lives then everyone who wants to erect a gallows outside, like they did at chez Bezos, or worse, knows where to go.

Ah, for a second I honestly thought that he meant that owning an unbelievably ostentatious palace carved out of a single diamond that is slightly bigger than Wales but which only has two people living in it - except for a small army of servants, lickspittles, backscratchers, toadies and serfs... and probably a large army of army, is an unjustifiable and unsustainable insult to humanity and an attack vector on all that which is good and decent in the world so he chooses to rent a modest semi-detached... but no I've probably got that totally backwards and he's actually so paranoid about someone knowing where he is that he dematerialises every evening and stores his personality on a USB hidden in a safe. The technology isn't totally a hundred percent there yet which is why he sometimes wakes up and starts calling an innocent man a paedo or trying to buy twitter - but still, it's gotta be better than running the risk of someone finding out where he lives and trying to tax him.

It's good to know that he's too paranoid to have a house though. A certain level of wealth kinda generates an automatic fear of attack cos they simply can't imagine that anyone could hear about it without being filled with an uncontrollable desire to steal it.

Kinda like when Anton Ferdinand was on trial for assault and (I think this is right) basically argued that he was justified in his actions cos he was wearing a really expensive watch and he was afraid the guy was gonna try and steal it unless he battered him first.

Short version; if your watch is expensive enough you are allowed to attack people.

He could have side-stepped this thorny problem through the simple expedient of not being an absolute bellend.

I never buy lottery tickets but bought two last week, figured 1-in-292.2 million odds weren't that bad. If I'd have won, I would have given all the active posters here a cool million each. @sufi might have gotten $2 mil, since he runs the joint.

Could I have foregone the million dollars for a Rustic gigante & chorizo baked beans, 2 poached eggs and bacon on multi grain toast at Citizens of Soho with you?

I hate having to keep repeating this...

Forgo = go without
Forego = go before
Forbear = choose not to
Forebear = ancestor

If it's got an e and thus has the word "fore" in it then it relates to something being before something... if you mean to say something about someone not doing something or the like then you want the spelling with no e ie for

Stan and all the US folks would go to CBGB’s with you (if it still existed). Can you imagine Stan at Bad Brains? Transcendental mental whereas Gus, solely, would be beyond disgusted

And scared, important adage

What do you mean "if it still existed"? CBGBs is still going strong, in fact stronger than ever, instead of being some dive for losers on The Bowery it's now an internationally recognised brand that uplifting gormandizers can enjoy in the clean and oh so hip environs of Newark Airport without having to make the unpleasant and potentially dangerous trek to some dirty and insalubrious part of town. Now one can partake of their beloved bluegrass without having to go anywhere near some dirty punk scum in a ripped leather jacket studded with badly spelled profanities.

Look at it! Clean, safe, gleaming - who could have ever have predicted that a scummy junky hangout could ever reach this pinnacle?

CBGBs has transcended the restrictions of being a mere place and has become something so much greater - a brand, even... a concept!
