    What is Manga?

Thanks! "The only other one Ive read is the story in Comics Underground Japan. which was pretty good IIRC. A surreal mini-alternate history where Japan wins WW2." Oh is that Year Of The Jap? I remember seeing the cover for that ages ago, that was the one I wanted to read. I'll try and track...

    What is Manga?

To contribute a bit to this, even if just a request, does anyone know if anyone is publishing Seuhiro Mauro's stuff currently? I have Mr Arashi's Freak Show and it's great, really strange and surreal but I've never found anythign else by him. I don't wanna miss the boat if his stuff comes back...

    What is Manga?

This is Visitor Q right? The mom? That's a weird movie, where so much of it is really quite wrong and shocking but somehow the overal effect is uplifting and positive and nothing like you would picture if someone just described scenes to you.

    surveillance in the arts

The Ear is a good one for this list. An old Czech film about a couple trying to avoid the surveillance equipment in their apartment so they can talk to each other. Panic Room maybe too?

    Grand Theft Auto

Sports games actually often go through quite dramatic changes to their mechanics. Much more so than first person shooters or things like that. I don't know football games so well but baseball and basketball ones, golf, boxing, hockey, whatever, they are always totally changing everything. I...

    Sci-Fi novels

Yeah I don't know, I've never particularily liked any of his short stories, but I read them randomly and haven't read that many so I probably just haven't read the good ones. I think what's cool about his take on things is that he focuses on the sort of people that would be side characters at...

    Sci-Fi novels

I don't get this criticism of Dick at all, I read it often but can't relate to it. It's the way he writes about people that drew me to him to begin with, but maybe I'm like the only one that likes this about him? I started with Confessions which isn't science fiction and I got into the genre...

    Sci-Fi novels

Confessions is my favorite one I think.

    Sci-Fi novels

Jumper took fairly liberally from The Stars My Destination so maybe it paved the way. It'll be interesting, I guess, to see if they keep the main guy so unlikable and stupid. I don't know if anyone's made a movie about a guy like that intentionally.

    Sci-fi must-reads and must-views

Also worth adding to this is the Stalker game which is shockingly well done. Stands up to the film and the book! It's more like the book I think in that it's about the experience of multiple Stalkers, but feels more like the movie (it's actually slower than the film). It relates to the novel...

    JG Ballard "Cocaine Nights"

I think Unlimited Dream Company, Crystal World and Concrete Island are definitely worth reading. They are different from the ones you mention too.

    Recommend me some psychedelic films

Have you seen the Cremaster films at all? They have a similar surreal feeling rooted in rituals that Holy Mountain and El Topo do. Some of the same kind of humour too. Possession is really great too although it's a different kind of thing.

    Michel Houellebecq

Yeah, I would be surprised if it was bad really.

    Batman

I really hated "the Batman Voice" in Begins but got into it this time. I guess because in this one I really got the impression that Batman is a lunatic and so it made sense that he would talk like that. Before I was questioning why Christian Bale thought Batman would sound like that, like did...

    Film Noir

Not sure it's noir really, but I was really into Gun Crazy. Two people that fall in love because of their shared obsession with guns. Sort of like Bonnie and Clyde but more fun and they are more screwed up, their thinking I mean.
