The Trevor Horn Sound
The pitch bend on the chaching is created by toggling the guitar whammy/tremolo bar while the harmonics sustain. That's the metal thing sticking out underneath the strings here. -

China Mieville -- Questions
On a bit of a Mieville burn at the minute. I liked The City and The City and Kraken but King Rat is the best so far I reckon. Perdido Street Station next, probably. It does that thing where other writing becomes unappealing while you're in it.- okzharp

Hinkley Point
yep. my mate lives in Nether Stowey which is a tiny town in the glow of Hinkley Point... in terms of ambient lighting it's a bit like having a massive full moon every night and there are hardly any stars. -

Yes. Exactly. But it's the same with history education. Kids in the UK learn about WW1/2 in year 7, year 9, year 10/11 and again in year 12. Often, they what they learn in Year 9 subtly contradicts what they learned in Year 7, etc. The result is probably some kind of desensitisation to the... -

I remember reading about a Breitbart 'simplification' project before Trump's election - the mission was to return societal organisation to the 19th century UK model, which was held up as some kind of 'peak'. Knowing stuff doesn't make people happy. Better for people to live in blissful ignorance...
