Yes. Would be strange. I've had so many years to imagine what you're all really like. But yes very kind of you to offer noodles.

Glad I stopped composing forum posts like they were letters. Here's a bad photo of Ears, D Double and Jammer that night. Never met Rob in the end.

Who are the best music journalists currently/ever?

Dave Tompkins. I like writers with busy imaginations who build new things with with ideas they find in music. Eshun and k-punk did this too. Tompkins is sillier. His account of visiting Rammellzee's apartment in How to Wreck a Nice Beach was especially good. That book should get more attention...

What Do You WAnt To Talk About?

No, you're the patron saint. I don't really know the other two. I made several suggestions at the time: 1. make everyone a mod, see who survives. 2. let Stelfox ban whoever's pissed him off today (his offer) 3. put Ian Town and Yoghurt in charge (yin-yang)

One of the times she left was after threatening to have her 'hacker friend' burn the place down. I may have banned her. Or she demanded that her account be deactivated. Then she came back anyway. I think I also banned one of HMLT's incarnations. That was for making physical threats against...

Low End Theory. A book by Nomos

First, please excuse any lapses on my part - it’s almost ten years since I wrote most of the text. Vimothy: Well spotted. That gets to the heart of the book: forcing that contradiction. On one hand, it’s a sonic-cultural history (lots of stories), but a strange one because it starts from the...

Low End Theory. A book by Nomos

In fairness to me, I started working on the book in 2005 (PhD thesis, right after launching Riddim.ca), finished in 2012. Set it aside and then it came out in hardcover in 2016 ($150 so why bother promoting), softcover 2017. So if anything feels a bit dated, that would be why. BUT it's also...

Low End Theory. A book by Nomos

FIRST OF ALL: The book has almost zero to do with dubstep, and dancefloors are just one chapter. What it's really about is how low-frequencies recast sensoria and surroundings and how people in various times and places have experimented with that, developing technologies and strategies for...

Musica Universalis & the Celestial Monochord

I wrote about things like this here: https://www.bloomsbury.com/uk/low-end-theory-9781501335914/ Pythagoras, pipe organs, Gothic churches, burial mounds, thunderstorms, bells, shy birds, levitation, pain... There's some cymatics in the next chapter, before getting into La Monte Young, Eleh...

    Electro

No Scorpio, yet? There's a good electro section in Dave Tompkins' How to Wreck a Nice Beach. Mostly Jonzun Crew (surprise appearances by Sun Ra and New Kids on the Block at the same time), but Miami generally and some New York.
