had to look that up and wow that's a movie i will never watch. i have never understood why people have the tendency or desire to look at such morbid things. i was watching the revenant last night and i turned it off half way to get myself a beer and have a walk around the block and stumbled upon a drag show in front of the local church and it made me instantly happy and felt like yes this is my kind of entertainment.

It’s pretty daft overall.

There’s a comedy called Norsemen that starts off with similar age related ritual suicide but played far more for laughs.

Midsommar's special effects for the mushroom scene I thought were above par. That might not be saying much, but then again I have no experience with special effects.

Ive met dutch people years ago and they were really mice, it was at a film festival in marseille and they were the ones up for staying up til 4 every morning Getting wasted. I like how they all speak six languagges, and are very efficient and polite, even when totally fucked.

Steve mcqueen the film director lives in amsterdam, moved from london to get some perspective. And tarantino lived there a while. Id never wantto live there, but the little time ive spent there has always been pleasant. Very Dark roots of course, the belgians as well.

i've actually started to appreciate the netherlands a lot more since i've been living in germany. people are way cooler and nicer and funnier in holland. if i'd ever move back i'd go and live in rotterdam.

That was the vibe i got off these guys, they were just up for having a laugh, not raking themselves too seriously. They all worked together in an ad agency or something. Glasses but long hair, or tattoos with neatly combed short hair. Bit of casual subversion, not too much.

The most Dutch people I ever met was in Thailand backpacking*. They were pretty much all very nice and good looking. The Brits were all pasty and weird looking and contorted with irony and insecurity.

It made me wonder if I would become like them if I lived there or if I would just stick out like a sarcastic thumb. Also if I could actually stomach such optimism and decency on a daily basis.

*This sentence is grammatically a nightmare and I'm leaving it as is as a monument to my idiocy.

I really like the dutch and their cities - Groningen and Utrecht more than Amsterdam, but Amsterdam is world class for culture. I'd happily live there. It's comforting to be about average height for once.

And it's not that boring (compared to my native east Midlands, now thats irredeemably dull outside Nottingham). Plus, magic truffles on tap.

They have a healthy contempt for Germans too. Stole most of their bikes and ended up being the last place in western Europe to be liberated (and the venue for the last, particularly grim battle, on Texel)
