Good bridges (physical, musical, other) and underpasses

Golden Gate Bridge nows "hums" after an "upgrade" to the handrails - locals are moaning

The bridges near me make droning noises during high winds, but I don't complain about it...it's like getting a Wire recommended album for free...

Australian tribal people have incorporated bridges into their art

Sydney Harbour Bridge

Present in the crowd at the Bridge’s opening ceremony was a contingent from the Aboriginal community of La Perouse on Sydney's Botany Bay. Impressed with the new structure, some of the La Perouse residents reportedly marched home and carved images of the bridge in the rocks near their home. Those pictures became part of a much larger and more ancient suite of rock engravings including pictures of fish and a 12-metre-long shark. Sadly the rock art at La Perouse has not survived, but the Sydney Harbour Bridge continued to feature in the art produced by the community’s Aboriginal artists

i'm gonna try and find more of the ones i took.

there's a bit near one of the big roundabouts with hulme which had some detourned "north face" stencils.

there was this party crew who also completely covered one of the underpass bits with RIPs for one of their mates.

I'd love it if you could dig those out - Manchester is being slowly destroyed by corporate interest - one of the Hulme subways has disappeared after a £9 million renovation, turning the roundabout that connected to Princess Parkway into a mess of traffic lights... I yearn for the days when I could walk into town through landscapes like this:

Yeah I've not been in that area for a while but i used to take loads of photos. Just checked this phone I'm on and heres a few, loads are on various other computers. I used to put loads up on Instagram but I deleted my account. Archived them all somewhere but can't remember where exactly etc etc.

Anyway... Think this is from nearby Hulme park

A couple of the RIPs. Jake. But the crew themselves had a name and were into all thd odd parties that used to spring up. And were in loose space when I was there.

Thanks! Those 'Jake' ones will be gone now, those pictures are from the subway that's been redeveloped. There were loads of those mushrooms all over the south of the city centre but they seem to have been removed now, not seen one in a while.

There was a different mushroom that was everywhere for a while, a proper liberty cap, very long stemmed, I caught a few of those. I liked it cos they got the spatial dynamics spot on.

I've been meaning to find all my old photos so will have a look in the next few days.

I did a few "projects" that I can remember and never really pursued to completion:

One was about these new flats on upper chorlton Road, with graffiti (including whale) all over the "To Let" signs and concept drawings, where I pretended it was a gallery opening.

Another was this patch of waste ground which I called the "garden of gethsemane", near the 3 big towers at the bottom of Ayres road. It was boarded up but there was a way in and it was a proper time capsule. there was this old municipal 70s council dustbin, this hige sturdy thing that brought back memories from childhood - "when bins were bins". And this strip on the inside of the boards which was like a throwie practise area for whale, earl and some of the other writers.

I did a bit of research on that area, it was the site of some other towers that had since been demolished, so it was vast but basically all rubble, with a few silver birch trees poking through. Had a lot of photos and the beginnings of a write up but i lost interest cos a guy told me it was full of asbestos and i should probably not be walking around it.

Then finally, I made loads of sound recordings and took video of the "number 8 on 1st street" area near HOME - the constant drilling noises coupled with graffiti over all the "No graffiti" signs etc.

Will see if i can dig it all out.

I know that wasteland well - it was the site of 4 of the "Seven Sisters" tower blocks - they had names like Osprey, Kestrel, etc. Some of the walls told a story - I remember one flat had multiple spew stains below the kitchen window, the dried vomit created a sickly patina..
I used to know people who lived in them, spent a lot of time there.. fenced off from the large patch of wasteland is a smaller area which was the site of the Seahawk, one of those good old fashioned pubs with dangerous dogs prowling the roof. I've stolen this photo from another site, but you can see some of the Seven Sisters as they were when they were still standing:

The block on the right is still standing, but the pub and those buildings behind it are where the wasteland is now...
