Skeng ft Intence - Ready

seemingly no end to the ways the 1Matik riddim, vocals and video can be recombined

riddim named explain ( writing it as "explain riddim" sounds too much like an exam question )

Slyngaz - Psychopathic

the riddim reminds me of the Exorcist soundtrack, this video suits it because of the overt Obeah vibe

Quaiboss - Rampage

"hey kids, do you like violence?" - another on the explain riddim ( I like the video for this one because of the JA bikelife shots )

I was intrigued by the Obeah imagery in the Slyngaz video posted above - it's even more explicit in these tunes from earlier in the year

Slyngaz - Witchcraft

edit: the Latin at the end of the video roughly translates as: "the world that we have created is the process of our thinking."
I'm not sure about the final clause though: "The spill should not be changed"?

Slyngaz - Obeah Man

Slyngaz - Duppy Run Yuh Dung

Don't think there's been any Alkaline posted in this thread till now but there should be cos he's still the absolute bollocks after all these years, though definitely more mature at the ripe old age of 27. Some great stuff on his album from this year.

@william_kent you heard Countree Hype's Dengue riddim from last year? Masterful Alkaline performance on this.

I'll confess that Countree Hype is a new name to me, but I was impressed with the "explain riddim" - going to have to investigate further

meanwhile, this one appeared on youtube a couple of days ago - sort of sounds like the "exorcist" keyboard figure from the explain riddim has been pitched up to my ears - nice use of horror bells as well

TopMann - Psycho ( prod: Countree Hype )

It's so dark - I mean, drill videos gave up music video's obsession with the beauty of the star by masking up. This just gives up the idea of entertainment to me. Context-less murders (I guess lyrics give a bit of context)

I think what makes it so dark is that it is extremely one sided - it's not like a gangster film where there's a shootout between two sides, it's just a massacre, not even the kids are spared..

Yeah, and the violation of the sanctity of a wake as well.

I mean, I know shit like that happens, but it's rare you see it even in a film, let alone what's supposed to be an entertaining advert for an artist.

I've seen quite a few videos like that Alkaline one, where they'll just kidnap someone, tie them to a chair and mock and torture them for the duration of the song, then just shoot or hang them at the end. Not sure exactly when this trend developed but it definitely seems to have gone beyond anything I've seen previously in rap and dancehall videos in terms of gratuitous violence. One I saw, can't remember which, they actually chop some guy into pieces.

Sometimes you're just like, what the fuck have I just watched?
