Well we are being harangued by an invisible killer (in some limited instances) virus, and at the same time undergoing a huge retreat into the digital realm wherein facts and opinions are effectively interchangeable, and thus the concept of reason becomes fruitless really.
I know you boys have talked about the concept of dematerialisation before but what i think if you couple that with the current societal embrace of the death drive from beyond the pleasure principle, then you're closer to the real crux of it.
Both extremes of the argument are trapped in this dichotomy, whether you believe that society is creating an unwarranted fascist dictatorship, or that we are letting the virus "run rampant" in thrall to the capitalist engine
Then you have those us trapped somewhere in the middle, surrounded by idiots in an increasingly digital world where computer generated gifs of monkeys that could have been plucked from the illustrated ape are somehow worth more than a house
People like Corbyn are emblematic of the situation really. The disarray has given platforms to the most pathetic niches of conspiracy and the weird people you used to mock for believing the queen was a lizard suddenly have emboldened online armies ready to start up brutal shit for no reason
