New R&B

This is one of the most British convos I've read in a moment, the last few days. More and more I realize your island needs to constantly come up with your own music styles (that are incredible and amazing) because something about your locale prevent you all from understanding music the way it's so obvious when it's made in America. We're supposedly a much dumber people and that's incredibly true, but yet... !

Everything is so dry, warping it into a different brand of dance music and templates when it's actually just trends, but instead it becomes formal exercises. There's something mercilessly dead about everything you're all pursuing, like there's a mathematical logic.

Third is like this too but Third is a mutant and an alchemist instinctually so it all makes sense for him, he just wants to keep reproducing things as dissonant as he is.

once a scene is codified its kind of only really for the initiates/specialists anyway.

So I don't see a problem with being rootless. I use genres/scenes as a structural tool.

Of course, the move most people do is to treat this as a pop type of approach, whereas I'm more about resurrecting paths not trodden.
I don't see a problem with it either... if I did I'd be fucked but that's not much of a justification really.

Do you think that's just UK or do lots of places that aren't US do it too?

And also, I think that what you're specifically referring to here is Leo and I both saying "ooh, I liked that bootleg, it puts me in mind of r&b meets ebm and I would like to hear more stuff in that vein" - and Leo is American. Although he does say "maths" so perhaps he has become anglicised in this way.

I think that if you mean me - and I think you do - then it's a mischaracterisation of what I'm doing though. Though looking back I do see why it could come across that way. But really it's much more simple, it's feeling rather than logic. And a very simple feeling "I don't really like this stuff but maybe there is something similar I might like". It arguably becomes dry when you add the word "brand" into it but I'm just looking for stuff that gives me a certain feeling not stuff with a specific name.

Although admittedly when I say "I could use a song like x for dj-ing" then that does cross into the, er, functional, but that's only a small part of the conversation which most people ignored anyway.

yeah, agree with @IdleRich here. we're not looking for a next big thing, just having a goofy conversation about a sound and wondering if there's anything else out there like it.

teleological formalist lines/spirals of development >>>>>>>>> summer trends

note the marked absence of @luka saying this is the worst music ever made in this thread. quite the reverse indeed haha very refreshing

Tracks like this make me think beyonce uses a random lyric generator for a good third to a half of her songs

Need to hear the whole album i suppose to see if it really is as dancey as has been made out

someone posted Erika de Casier earlier, here's some more Danish RnB. dunno if it's RnB really, the rest of the album this is from feels somewhere between RnB and some type of contemporary classical music. none of the rest of the album is as good as this track imo.

I've listened to it so many times. Something about the massive filtered synth by itself after the delicate singing always really gets me

I like these tracks from Coco Jones's latest EP

I feel like I know ICU from a remix, maybe by one of the UK amapiano guys, but I can't find it. I've got a feeling I'll go off these tracks but not really sure why

Not sure whether this is RnB either, I guess it's an Alte RnB crossover, but I love Odunsi (The Engine). Sick name. Every release seems really well put together. Cool aesthetic too, reminds me of Ragz who I posted before. Got a similar Belly-influenced thing going on, leather jackets, sunglasses, drenched in a blue or red light

this whole EP is really good

It reminds me of Sicko Mobb from Chicago, layered up cartoony feeling autotuned vocals and an almost soca rhythm

Made this futurist mini film/music video type thing as well that's worth a watch/listen

Surprised he's not really famous already. Seems like you'd need a big and cool team to pull something like this off.
