Your review is magnificent. Head and shoulders above the film itself.

I literally am not a paste person but I keep on forgetting. Writing a job application just now made me remember.

We didn't Youtube it but I regard that as a lucky break these days.

I literally have been there, being a knobhead in the back of a mate's Vauxhall Astra.

For sure, but resenting what exactly? Being on 1xtra is not exactly banging supermodels on Puffy's yacht.

Yeah, I feel more recognition than resentment when I look at the opening post.

Yeah this is exactly what I'm talking about. I think there's a realness in BBDC that's absent from HF. Quite a mundane and boring realness but there nonetheless.

one reason why the music is so weird. They have to rap about being an psychedelic otherworld or whatever because their lives are as boringly suburban as yours and mine.

BBDC brings to mind to me a landscape of A-roads and industrial estates, doing handbrake turns in the B&Q car park. Getting at McDonalds at the drive through afterwards.

This is why HF is seems so weird, particularly related to the current moment. I think I said this before, but we have what we've always wanted, an authentic UK street music and these guys seem to to pretend it's not happening.

Sure no problem. Perhaps the reflexive shudder of horror at self recognition has driven me away from thinking about HF.

Very white, suburban, in that classless no-mans land most of us inhabit now, but genuinely so. No cosplay.

I'm struck by the opening post again to take it back to BBCC. I don't know where this fits in, but they seem so normal to me, recognisable (echoing Luka's posts above above, BBDC seem like a younger version of me or more accurately some of my mates (I've never had a car). One of them just got...

I think absolutely that you can connect drill and austerity. Not joking anymore.

I've forgotten the bloke's name but one of 'em really goes in for the self conscious psychedelic visionary I'm crrrraaazzzy stuff.

I am almost tempted to make an infographic comparing the two. The only thing stopping me is I don't want to become that invested in the idea for reasons of personal shame ("how did you spend the holidays Dan?"). The most striking analogy is the popularity in Brighton and Bristol. Think about it.

Yeah, totally. There's a sense of total familarity with where they've come from, we recognise all the reference points and can plot the journey. it's kind of us without the stablising influence of pirate radio tbh. Surely one of the glories of High Focus is that age (and relevance to youth...

The cosplaying and fantasy aspects you alluded to above in combination with a moral po-facedness reminds me almost exactly of let's just say.... a recently passed political development on the Left. It seems an exact analogy to me.

The HF stuff seems to me very sexless in a v English way. It'd be interested to plot the attitudes to sex and how they're different across all the different UK MC musics.
