    FLUCTUATION IN SUPERHUMAN ABILITIES

Capitalise on feelings of potential: if you feel like writing, write; if you feel like making music, make music etc.

I said, as you cited, 'in most parts'...hence the lower gradient. Herd immunity is not eradication. Also, bear in mind the UK is now conflating flu/pneumonia/Covid to some extent.

@Mr. Tea That's the UK? Why is the gradient less now than it was in March/April? And what are the daily excess deaths?

If seasonal variation in flu, Covid etc is from atmospheric recycling of particles in the air, then masks outdoors makes sense, provided they're masks that protect oneself directly.

    Stray thoughts under partial quarantine

Things were better in my day because I was better back then: faster, stronger, harder.

Measures are relaxed as the risk decreases.

Local lockdowns are focused on screwing Labour constituencies for the foreseeable.

The govt have been pursuing herd immunity anyway but with lockdowns to mollify the media: they have locked down or upgraded tiers after transmisson begins to fall off.

It doesn't involve zero transmission, just a situation in which one would be rather unlucky to fall ill as most outbreaks wouldn't be able to maintain an R above 1.

@Mr. Tea thinks the human race came into being with the Enlightenment. We're quite resilient to pathogens thanks to millenia of evolutionary selection. In the same way that we're selecting for nastier bacteria by current sanitisation practice.

Well, NY could have it but not the rest of the country, that kind of thing, doesn't have to be the whole world. I think the idea is that a large enough subset is immune to slow or prevent viral transmission among the still susceptible. My workplace has herd immunity afaict: plenty of cases...

But it says that health workers still have the same proportion of antibodies due to repeated exposure...protection through exposure is indeed herd immunity.

Imagine spending that on basic medical supplies for the developing world: could save 100,000s more lives for each Israeli life saved.

An Israeli study came out this week estimating the cost of saving a death through lockdown at $45,000,000 - an immoral reallocation of funds which obviously deprives others of vital support.

If the cases are overwhelmingly mild, it's not that bad a thing: it's a sign that the virus is moving between the rump of not-as-susceptible on the way to petering out.

Even better: set up special shopping hours for key workers and oldies that matchmake the most likely to be infected (and furthermore active while infected as they have important roles) with the most susceptible.

Depends what the costs are. We could eliminate car accidents by establishing a 5mph speed limit but I don't think people would go for it.
