    PKD

In The Simulacra ( 1964 ) he predicts what I take to be drones with "personalised" adverts: We've not reached that point yet, but it's only a matter of time...

Acorn Woodpeckers Have Multi-Day Wars, and Birds Come From All Around to Watch This seems like the equivalent of an MMA match, but with more violence...

    Feats of Nerdiness

Here's a feat of nerdiness - I was watching the news this morning and the story was about the Tories "levelling up the country". "Levelling up" is a concept from Dungeons and Dragons which as a statistics based game made it a natural fit for computer games, and somehow this terminology has...

    Dodgy T-shirts

There's a whole wikipedia article on the Nordic Biker War - high body count, club houses being blown up

    Dodgy T-shirts

the Manson shirt that they sold at gigs had autopsy diagrams of Sharon Tate or Abigal Folger on the back - whichever one had the most stab wounds anyway... a bit tasteless really..

    Dodgy T-shirts

I seem to remember fans of Black Label Society ( I think they are a metal band or something ) getting beaten up by members of the Satan's Slaves because their tee shirts look like a one-percenter motorcycle club"rocker design" - the gig they were on their way to ended up being cancelled by the...

    Feats of Nerdiness

Thanks for the tip - ages ago I listened to the "Icelandic Sagas" episode ( which doesn't feature John Hines ) which was entertaining as one of the guests had some opinions not shared by the others...

    Feats of Nerdiness

Some of the superimpositions in that video have the look of a Cenobite straight out of Hellraiser - I had a bit of a flashback to Dead Snow as well...

    Dodgy T-shirts

How about Boyd Rice and some of the "provocative" gear he has been photographed wearing? I'm loath to post the picture here, but the third photo on this page shows him sporting a tee shirt that no one should even contemplate wearing, yet he unashamedly models it, completing the look with a bold...

    Feats of Nerdiness

He packs a lot into those lectures! His enthusiasm has rubbed off on me to such an extent that I've just ordered another book by him , "The Viking Way: Magic and Mind in Late Iron Age Scandinavia"...

    Feats of Nerdiness

One thing I initially found puzzling about the Icelandic Sagas was why they always want to hang about with the Norwegian king when they first set out on a summer of "raiding", especially because the whole point of settling Iceland was so they weren't under the king's rule, but Jackson Crawford...

    Feats of Nerdiness

I'm hoping to start reading his book tonight and that it will get me back on track with a task I set myself of completing "The Complete Sagas of The Icelanders", a five volume set I bought at the beginning of the year. I've completed the first two volumes, and there have been a few tales of...

    Feats of Nerdiness

I'm glad you enjoyed those. He's one of those academics who has taken his nerdy interests to an extreme, basically turned his hobby into a career. I was intrigued by the mention of one of his other interests, "the archeology of the opium trade", I'd love to see him doing a lecture on that. I've...

    Feats of Nerdiness

Professor Neil Price delivers the first of three fantastic lectures which I've watched multiple times - his geekiness and pompous nature is unmistakable, yet thoroughly engaging. I love it when he credits the Marvel Universe's Thor for providing us with one of the best representations of...

    Deep House and Garage

I had a proper listen to this today - fantastic stuff. The presenter hardly gets a word in which was a blessing, was a refreshing listen compared to the bullshit some other systems churn out.. I liked that he didn't take any credit for Castlemorton ,unlike another sound who seem to think it was...

Good bridges (physical, musical, other) and underpasses

I know that wasteland well - it was the site of 4 of the "Seven Sisters" tower blocks - they had names like Osprey, Kestrel, etc. Some of the walls told a story - I remember one flat had multiple spew stains below the kitchen window, the dried vomit created a sickly patina.. I used to know...

Good bridges (physical, musical, other) and underpasses

Thanks! Those 'Jake' ones will be gone now, those pictures are from the subway that's been redeveloped. There were loads of those mushrooms all over the south of the city centre but they seem to have been removed now, not seen one in a while.
