    Herman Melville

Recently found myself surprised by how much he wrote. I've read Bartleby and Moby Dick but does anyone have any comments on his other work? The Confidence Man, Redburn or White-Jacket for example?

    AVvFPTP

I am quite baffled by this and really don't know what to think. That said, I'm not allowed to vote in this country, so perhaps I should stop worrying. Thought it might be nice to have a thread though.

    Falsehoods!

http://billybullshit.com A bloke at my sixth form claimed to have been in the car with his driving instructor on the way back from a lesson, when a kid ran out into the road. The instructor decided to deliberately mow the child down because he knew he couldn't get in trouble for it because it...

    Suspiria: Dalston Rio, 16 October

I can't upload the image of the flier for some reason, but my friends at Cigarette Burns (http://www.cigaretteburnscinema.com/) are playing on the uncut version of Suspiria at the Rio on Saturday, 11:30. I think it will be wicked: "Cigarette Burns Cinema is continuing its partnership with...

    Washington DC recommendations

I shall be swanning around Washington DC later this month. All I know about the place is that I went there when I was seven and I once read a George Pelecanos novel and a book by Henry Rollins. Also I think the King of America lives there, or something. Does anyone have any recommendations...

    Adapter adaptor

I have been given a clock, which runs off the mains electricity supply. The problem is that it has a US plug (one of the two-pronged ones) and living in the UK I need a three-pronged plug (I think the voltages are different too). Is it safe to just run it through an adaptor permanently? Or will...

    urges: succumbed/unsuccumbed

I think I might start keeping a public willpower log, for example, I just managed to suppress the impulse to burst into the finance director's office and throw a biscuit at him.

    dj food radio set

Does anyone remember (or indeed have) a DJ food radio set from around 2000 (possibly for Gilles Petersen)? It features a Jack DeJohnette tune, which is all cymbals, and a monologue from Rod Steiger in the Pawnbroker. It's specifically the DeJohnette tune I'm interested in.

    televisual parenting

How much TV were you allowed to watch as a kid? I always wonder if it has any real bearing on later life. My parents were pretty hard on forbidding excessive telly; now I don't watch a huge amount (though more than many other middle-class people do/will admit to), whereas my sister will watch...

    Risibly expensive things

I went to buy some wrapping paper from a paper shop today, and the most expensive stuff you could get was nine quid a sheet, for some hand-drawn Japanese wrapping paper. There's no real point to this but golly I'm shocked.
