    USB/firewire -> PCMCIA converters?

    Oh there are! I had no idea.

    USB/firewire -> PCMCIA converters?

    Don't think there is such a thing. It's unlikely cos PCMCIA runs at higher speeds with more bandwidth than FW or USB2. People have had the same trouble with most PC laptops going ExpressCard now, although there are adaptors soundcards can still be a bit tricky.

    year of the pirate

    Someone could email Ahmedou Ould-Abdallah and ask him for a comment if they wanted. It would hardly be implausible or unprecedented if unscrupulous business and government were using vulnerable areas for illegal dumping and/or fishing though.

    year of the pirate

    More to this than meets the eye Cap'n? Ahmedou Ould-Abdallah, the UN envoy to Somalia, tells me: "Somebody is dumping nuclear material here. There is also lead, and heavy metals such as cadmium and mercury – you name it." Much of it can be traced back to European hospitals and factories, who...

    Reynolds hardcore continuum event

    One of the reasons rave pulled in so many people, and actually became this POP moment, was basically that is was so much more fun than anything else that was going on. I wonder if that can happen again? Or are people already having that kind of fun? I have to it doesn't seem like it really.

    'Cyberchondria'

    But what if you don't have a secretary? ;) I'm assuming it checked out ok Dusty? It must be quite weird for GPs as I imagine they spend most of their time dealing with false alarms and reassuring people.

    Reynolds hardcore continuum event

    Someone mentioned the evolution of Footwurk on the Juke thread, the rapid feedback and mutation in a focussed scene. That's exactly what happened with 'ardkore - a very intense situation where mental experiences dancing to the music with loads of people in an altered state lead directly into...

    Reynolds hardcore continuum event

    I mean attitude in the sense of an approach to the music more than the social setting actually. To me it's clearly all rave music, and it's also clear that there is a direct lineage of 'ardkore > jungle > ukg > grime / dubstep. I don't know what it means either lol, but what it says is there was...

    They are kind of, but not so directly. There's more from early techno and way less if any reggae reggae sauce in those styles, I think that's a key element. I think sonic continuities are there all the way through as well. It's pretty obvious in dubstep, grime and 2-step isn't it? Most clearly...

    Very true. Jungle and Garage had the recognition and it was a way of saying, hang on, that music came from this music which you dismissed at the time. Yep, that sounds about right as well. Don't forget rock / indie / psychedelic kids too though.

    World's Greatest Female Singers II

    Hey boombox, I think it's commendable that you have made and posted this list, especially as you must know it will be at odds with the opinions of many who post here. Big up. I think though if your criteria for measuring 'greatness' are "pitch, tone, range, control, phrasing and versatility"...

    What are you writing?

    I'm trying to work out in what sense you mean this. Having witnessed a Hot Chip in-store I noted that the old line about 'what's got 86 legs and no pubic hair' kind of applied, which was a bit odd.

    World's Greatest Female Singers II

    It's mostly doomy ambient Fairlight workouts '86 vintage a la early Coil, but strikes a chord for some reason, especially this time of year. Don't know any other SPK stuff really, the gamelan track is a gem though, it's probably all sampled. This is the album I refer to...

    Have been really digging the album that's from lately. The faux gamelan thing that follows it is beautiful.

    a futile plea to producers

    Doom, I do agree there certainly are 'djs' you could level criticism at in terms of having no selection depth beyond the surface of a few blogs and forums. Preening idiots who think that means they know what they are doing are very annoying. But since when have most Djs not been twats.

    a futile plea to producers

    Yeah but not everyone does and that's never actually going to happen is it. I've always bought stuff but I might occasionally play a 'found' mp3 if I really can't get the track anywhere else and it's really good or just right on the night. That's my old school ethos though, it's unlikely I'd...

    a futile plea to producers

    I didn't think that description applied to zhao from what I know of what he does. But you have to hear about stuff somehow if you are a DJ, unless you only use tracks you get direct from producers or make yourself. Using tracks posted on forums is just utilising the layers of global cultural...
