    Shoegaze

It's interesting how POPULAR shoegaze music is these days. I remember very clearly at the time simon Reynolds bagging the shit out of the genre as being the 'scene that celebrates itself', but in hindsight alot of the bands have dated alot better than many of the American grunge bands of the...

I've been unemployed since the beginning of the year...I've had two interviews this year, I had three late last year while I was still in a job. I took a voluntary package of around $60,000 AUS and am using it to pay off my mortgage.. But it's deflating as time goes past and you still don't...

tecnobrega and other open source mashups

Just saw that RIP doccumentary about remix and open source.. The interesting thing was TECNOBREGA or whatever from Brazil, where they just pinch contemporary pop music and blend it into whatever.. I know so of you experts out there can fill me in on this stuff, but where can I get the...

    RIP Rowland S Howard

Glad you think so, since Simon Reynolds didn't even mention it in his biased history of post-punk - a book i incidentally picked up at Fopp for 3 quid! ;)

    RIP Rowland S Howard

Whilst he aint dub-step-hyperism defintely a 'modernist' guitar player, and one of the more unique and 'world class' influential artists from Australia. Most of you probably know his sound/style - noise guitar fused with a cinematic Morricone-like grandeur informed by the post-punk neurosis -...

    Boogie rock - recommendations?!

ROSE TATTOO - first album. Absolute classic hard boogie rock. T-REX - Electric Warrior - in fact all the T-Rex stuff. THIN LIZZY - Jailbreak - whilst it's moving 'post boogie' it's technically, sonically, song strucutre-ly a terrific, terrific record. One of the absolute greatest Engerlisch hard...

Where at the MBV and New Order remasters?

Whilst the convict colony I live in gets everything 3 months after the civilised world fact, I'm curious to know what happened to the My Bloody Valentine and New Order remastered deluxe CDs that were meant to come out this time LAST YEAR?? Anyone know? I believe the New Order ones were recalled...

    Alain Robbe-Grillet (films mainly)

EDEN AND AFTER is fantastic, as is L'IMMORTELLE, and yes the comparison to DAVID LYNCH is spot-on, Lynch freaks will find Robbe-Grillet movies very, very easy to digest, as will fans of surreal/cult cinema, and there's boobs and sexy knickers in there with all the intellectual stuff, so there's...

was jazz targetted to the 'head' culture in it's day?

Whilst I have been a fan of the more 'free' jazz, I've always been curious to know whether it was marketed as head/psychedelic/stoner type music in the same way music like Pink Floyd/Velvet Underground/Sonic Youth/Eno/garage and psych punk bands/Spacemen3 /techno/lo-fi etc..etc..are? I...

..OK, I've *****READ***** all about this stuff but haven't even HEARD it. So where can I hear this stuff without having to do a blind purchase? That is all I want to know, I'll start the textual, intellectual discourse once it seeped into the psychic space. Cheerio.

Where to start with Afro beat?

..I just finished reading the Brian Eno bio, and lots of passages relating to his love of African music. I saw a Kanda Bongo Man performance on TV recently, and was really blown away by the complex guitar rhythms and groove. Can anyone recommend any good place to start with this African stuff...

    Favourite (official) Kraftwerk Studio Album

COMPUTER WORLD, definitely the blue-print for the whole Detroit/Berlin techno thing, the sequencing and arrangements and some of the rhythms on it are fantastic. MAN MACHINE not far off. Also great hypno grooves, esp. NEON LIGHTS.

Convince me why I should like The Beatles

You should like thee Beatles because they had a few really good songs and since most of you are English and European they were the first group to really overtake the evilAmerican dominant capatalistic paradigm of just making better more original and influential music than the fucken Poms. But...
