    Everything Dissensus-y released in 2009?

Oh yeah, that's the one. I probably posted a bunch in there.

    Everything Dissensus-y released in 2009?

I hadn't emailed them - I figured they'd ignore it - but probably worth a try. RA reviews I hadn't thought of but that's a really good suggestion.

    Everything Dissensus-y released in 2009?

Hi All, I'm working on a project which involves compiling Spotify playlists of the dubstep/bass music/"breakbeat continuum"-ish music from 2009, by month, and I'm wondering if there are any resources we're missing that would make the job easier. Some things we've tried: 1) thinking about it...

questions you are dying to ask but are too scared to b/c of music nerd cred?

Forgot to mention but these are great. Walked by Grow and Five Miles the other day and, despite that immediate area being hideous in many ways, the venues look promising.

Nice - good suggestions there, slackk. Truth be told, tho, it's going to take a lot to get me to go out regularly in South London. Old habits die hard.

Haha well then if you need advice on who was great in 2002 for reminiscing purposes, I'm your man.

questions you are dying to ask but are too scared to b/c of music nerd cred?

The decent shows. Very practical kind of shame here, and I'm also outing myself as being old as the hills: I just moved back to London after a 17 year absence and I'm having trouble finding good shows/dj nights. There aren't flyers/posters on the same scale, Time Out is even less useful than...

Berlin - whither should I go?

Quebec just elected a separatist (i.e. nationalist) government, which opens up the interesting possibility of turning back the Montreal gentrification clock 20 years, if things get suitably oppressive. Not like we need any more bohemian artist types as is.

    House / Techno 2012

Which one's that? In related news, 2012 = the year seemingly everyone made a track that sounded like Blawan.

    PRs for DJs

Never hurts to have a decent bio; frequently hurts to have a terrible one. A formal press release seems a bit superfluous though, unless there's some specific project like a big tour or artist album or what have you. Saying something to the effect of "DJ Whatever is amazing and available!!"...

    Electroswing.

Apologies if this has been mentioned before but I found it curious. I've been seeing the genre name Electroswing around here lately. The main monthly has been quietly packing out relatively large venues (300-400 capacity, the equivalent of probably 600-800 in London). Then this weekend Piknic...

rolling back to the future garage/post-dubstep/alt-funkstep/intelli-2step etc thread

Re: Ben Another case of transatlantic differences. In the places I've lived on this side of the pond (Montreal and Toronto), a set of those tracks would be called "techno" or "deep techno". No direct disco influence = not house. YMMV

rolling back to the future garage/post-dubstep/alt-funkstep/intelli-2step etc thread

Perhaps I'm just going to up the level of pedanticism in this thread but are those not all techno tracks? When I think trad house I think of Promised Land.

rolling back to the future garage/post-dubstep/alt-funkstep/intelli-2step etc thread

I beg to differ only to point out that it probably should be symptomatic of what's shit about Canada right now, since that's where I am.

    Contracts.

A collaboration I did with another Montreal producer recently was "signed" to a label. When I was asked to send over the pre-masters I said "let's take care of the paperwork first". The contract we got was appallingly one-sided, we countered with one I had sitting around from ages ago and the...

An article about gov't subsidies for dance music.

Def some valid points there Secondline. I agree about the first two paragraphs. In terms of the third, the majority of programs I deal with are peer evaluated. That's actually how I got into grantwriting in the first place - from being on juries. So you're sitting there with a couple of...

An article about gov't subsidies for dance music.

Here's an article I did for the MUTEK magazine. I'm pretty happy with it - hopefully some of you will get something out of it: http://www.mutek.org/en/magazine/364-pennies-from-heaven Enjoy!

    Scuba's Personality = Sasha's Expander.

Haha - if anything that accurate appraisal is going to take him up, not down, in my estimation. Anyway, I like the sound. Loss and, yes, Adrenalin were pretty good. Tunes on the album don't really blow me away tho.
