    chill out

well, if we're still talking about Rising High, let's also talk about Dreamfish, the Pete Namlook/Mixmaster Morris collaboration... one of the great original chillout records was Terry Riley's A Rainbow In Curved Air...also, Steve Hillage's Rainbow Dome Musick and Virgina Astley's From Gardens...

    Tinnitus?

I've had it in my left ear for over a year now. (I say "ear", but I think it's actually more in your brain, i.e. reproducing sound waves it can no longer hear). Totally freaked me out at first, went to two specialists, basically learned that the medical profession knows very little about this...

    Ambient

why is it that I'm already thinking of ways the military can/will co-opt this idea (if they haven't done so already!) I recall reading somewhere that Music For Airports got played over the sound system at some US airport (Pittsburgh, maybe?), and it really freaked out the fliers!

    what you currently enjoying ?

anybody else digging the Versatile Henry Mancini reissue?...really good exotica, mellower and less dramatic than Les Baxter, not as ambient as Denny and Lyman...but quite languid and spooky, with wordless vocals by the woman who went on to do the "Star Trek" theme song...

    Rick James

loved his cheesy ballads, too ("Fire & Desire", Glow", etc.) (pass the joint) and don't forget that he gave the world Teena Marie and the Mary Jane Girls (pass the joint)

Bruce Goff -Architect- films-talk 21-22 June

always liked his residential work, think of him as a wackier John Lautner...the only building of his I've seen in person is the Pavilion for Japanese Art, which is part of the LA Country Museum of Art (and which back-drops the La Brea Tar Pits!)...a bit of a let-down, but then again, it was...
