Schlager

It's all grist
I wouldn't really say that (I mean the In Kraut stuff) is schlager at all. Maybe the Hildegard Knef stuff which is definitely good.
I'm sure I've stuck this up before but I believe that Cindy und Bert were known as a schlager act before they came up with this monster (or camp monstrosity depending on your taste - I'm in the former group)

Christ. That's more ticks than I've got boxes I think! Love it.

As Consequence of Sound reports, Schlagermoroder (Volume 1: 1966-1975) collects the non-disco, pre-soundtrack rarities that were released under pseudonyms Giorgio, George, or Snoopy, in various languages and across several territories.

If it doesn't have to german, there's some great finnish folk/immigrant work songs...

Hiski Salomaa - Lännen lokari

If it has to be german... more of an off-kilter acid/hippy folk type though...
Witthüser & Westrupp - Schöpfung - Der Jesuspilz (translates: Creation & the jesus mushroom)
Live:

If you want the 50s to 80s hardcore bavarian stuff... look for Musikantenstadl.
makes me feel like punching something though...
