Tory MP Selaine Saxby; I am delighted our local businesses have bounced back so much after lockdown they are able to give away food for free, and very much hope they will not be seeking any further government support.
Quite right too - what's the point of funneling money to business if they're going to waste it feeding starving children?

More and more Tory bastards are realising that being against feeding starving children doesn't look so good - loads of them are releasing statements saying that they wanted to vote with Labour but nasty Boris stopped them with his three line whip. So having their cake and eating it in other words.
Mr Freeman said he used his proxy vote to go by the three line whip to vote against the motion last week.
The letter said: “With hindsight I think that was a mistake. Last week was not a moment for tribal political games in Parliament.

Well most of it IS going to their mates at the moment so that's understandable.

But the cynicism here is hilarious, they're all suddenly realising they've fucked up, not cos letting children starve is bad, but cos it might cost them some votes.

But yeah, the money thing, just on the overalls. Seems we used 500,000 overalls - but the government bought 29 million, a supply that should last thirty six years, although sadly, the overalls only have a shelf-life of three years. So they gave 700m to their mates and left the cupboard bare in terms of feeding children. Oh well.

I don't think anyone here would seriously argue that would they? I mean assuming that we could get away with it and so on.

Yeah, I mean I'm pretty much in favour of driving through them all in some sort of threshing machine at this point. Perhaps that's a bit too quick for them, though.

Not to mention all the oldies who've died or got badly sick from covid. And all the ones who've lost a sibling, partner or best friend as a result. Apparently a major factor in the collapse of support for Trump has been that a lot of older voters have turned away from him, probably as a direct result of his utter shambles of a response to the virus.

As the article hints (so far anyway) one of the problems for the Tories is that they are determined not to agree with Labour on anything that they propose - so they are in a real bind if Labour suggest something that is obviously a good idea or that is popular.
As a result of that you have Boris Johnson saying "No children will go hungry this winter" having just imposed a three line whip to prevent hungry children being fed this winter and with no alternative in place. It makes him sound insane.

“Even those of us who have campaigned on this issue and abstained as a result are getting abuse"
No way! Even after you heroically abstained?
I mean, can't starving people recognise that the real victims here are Tory MPs who are being unfairly pilloried as having voted against this policy when all they did really was fail to vote for it?

Doesn't always seem to be the case.
