I don't even pay close attention to this stuff and even I'm amazed (gobsmacked!) at what these clowns get away with, or rather what the people allow them to get away with.

where's the outrage, the demands for resignations, etc.? how do you deal with leaders who have no shame, and seemingly no framework for checks and balances? and I ask that as someone who lives in a country where we recently had a spectacularly incompetent and shameless government (but where the checks and balances, while not perfect, did work for the most part).

I would rather see Hancock lose his job over the 150k+ deaths than his sex life.

I don't think the issue is the morality of affairs - everybody makes mistakes, you can't know how a relationship is from the outside, etc - I think it's more the potential for blackmail etc that's an issue. Johnson's had his Acuri moment and got away with it fine, this surely won't do any damage, and it's well-time given that T&T have lost 550m covid tests and Scotland's net population has only grown a meagre 2700 in the past year.

yeah, it's not this latest incident per se, but the cumulative effect of all the sleaze and incompetence.

It's not as though anyone backing Boris, the Tories or the government can get on their high horse about infidelity anyway.

And now, of course, it turns out the brother of this Gina woman runs a medical supplies company that scored a big contract with the NHS last year. At this point I think we'd all be pretty surprised if something like that hadn't been the case, right?

Not advocating for Hancock to undergo a violent death, but if it happened, well, be a real shame if it was caught on camera and put online for everyone to cheer on view the fun horror

Less about Tory bastards but something about the way the internet works... nothing on these lines until about 5pm today and then suddenly variations on "Hancock eating out to help out" started popping up thick and fast and coming at me via different platforms, with different hilarious illustrative pictures. i guess once someone said the line it went round the world (OK; the tiny part of it that knows and cares who Hancock is and what he has done) in a few seconds, and then everyone raced to make it funnier by sticking his face on to some other pic...

Heh, yep. Saw it in a Signal group chat, posted by our mutual friend Ben about 4 pm.

It's different to Cummings this isn't it. It's all a big hah, everyone's just laughing. I think the feeling on Hancock is just "poor guy" and no one minds him getting his end away.

This is where one has to be careful isn't it? Seeing as I got banned from twitter for pointing out that
a) Hunt's name can easily be confused with that totally repellent and disgusting part of the body that everyone hates so much it became the most offensive word in the English language,
and that
b) he probably shouldn't have been texting Murdoch Jr with advice on how to get round the rules of the very body that he himself was heading (a body that he was in fact the most disgusting and repellent part of come to think of it),
I dread to think what would happen to me if at any point I gave my REAL undiluted and uncensored views on this bunch utter scumbags who are running this shit show at the moment.
Genuine questions here; is it hate speech to say, say "I wish Mogg would die"? I do hate him and it's kinda speech so.... but could I be in trouble for that? Cos it's just an opinion and I'm not threatening to make it happen or even trying to influence anyone else to make it happen.

Must be a lot of pressure on the guy, he probably feels absolutely terrible having broken his own rules, broken the law, recently having discovered that even Johnson thought he was a fucking useless idiot.. and now this humiliation and disgrace, not to mention the knowledge that his incompetence and venality has directly led to the deaths of so many innocent people. He must be feeling as though the only thing to do at this point is to kill himself in a really painful and humiliating way, poor chap.

Or maybe now, at his lowest ebb, he might have a moment of clarity; the enormity of his crimes finally sinking in to the soft tissue of his proto-brain as it decouples from the Tory hive mind. As he thinks to himself "what have I done?" and, realises that nothing he could do could ever come close to truly making amends for the damage he has caused, he might at least resolve to try and prevent further damage to humanity by deciding to go fucking postal and launch a spree killing on the front on the Tory front bench, gunning down as many of them as possible before going down in a hail of his own cackhandedly misdirected bullets. Obviously I am in no way advocating that, to be clear - I doubt he would manage to hit any of them anyway.

I'm curious who got the recording to the press and where it came from in the first place. They seem to have sat on it for a while too as it apparently dates back to May 6th.

We never found out who leaked the diplomatic cables that got Kim Darroch fired either. It looked like Isabel Oakeshott was in trouble for a while then it all blew over and people moved on.
