I'm finding it pretty hilarious the way that the Tories are now claiming that Thatcher shut the mines due to some prescient understanding of environmentalism and climate change.

Oh wow, whole "millions". I'm sure that'll pay for at least three days' work on HS2.

Some charity workers have said it's likely to end up costing the NHS more as it could lead to an increase in otherwise avoidable GP and hospital trips.

The idea isn't to save money, really. This is about creating a two-tier NHS. Can't pay? Tough luck, you probably don't deserve to be healthy anyway. I hate this wretched country.

Shit like that's been happening for years. I think the government spent more on legal fees fighting appeals against the spare bedroom tax (most of which it lost) than it made from the tax.

That, and a cynical ploy for short-term gain. They can spin it as tough and pragmatic without fear of reprisals as few will be arsed to chase it up in the future or crunch the numbers, if they even remember.

Callousness being synonymous with pragmatism's something which seems to do a lot of lifting when it comes to the idea of the Tories being "sensible" on the economy.

Oh dear, was here or the funny thread

Williamson was asked if he had met Marcus Rashford. “We met over Zoom & he seemed incredibly engaged, compassionate and charming but then he had to shoot off.” Later Williamson’s team admit that he actually met the rugby player Maro Itoje.

Has everyone seen this - very old - speech that has surfaced in which Michael Gove celebrates how the Tory party 'stamped on the cruel, toothless faces of Northerners'?

Did you see that the French withdrew their ambassadors from Australia and US over this submarine thing and people were asking why they weren't doing the same for UK and they basically said "No point, they're such cunts that this is what we expect from them anyway".

I did, which makes sense because if there is any nation with a spotless moral and ethical record, then it's surely France.
