No mention of this party? I mean the one that definitely didn't happen and at which the guidelines were followed at all times - except for the one about not having parties obviously although it was really because they never had a party - and anyway Johnson didn't attend it and he followed the guidelines at all times while not being at the party, which he couldn't have been at cos it never happened anyway.

There is one which goes something like "There was a man and he had no face and he had no body and he had no arms or legs and in fact there was nothing to him so we had better not talk about him at all" seems kinda similar no?

Beyond parody at this stage. We need an actual photo from inside the party splashed on the front of the tabloids. Then let the swivelling shits deny it.

Funnily enough, I've seen that very argument made by Tory supporters... everyone was breaking the rules and was always going to so why complain aboutt them doing it?

To which the obvious answer is that the people who had their parties broken up by the police and got slapped with a massive fine are entitled to complain about it.

It does seem a bit weird that she is resigning for joking about The Party but none of the people who atttended it are suffereing any consequences at all. I'm capitalising it and calling it The Party as it now clearly deserves that status what with being apparently the most important event that has (not) happened in any* of our lifetimes.

the more of them suffer for holding a piss up the better
I completely agree. I am loving every second of this story... the details such as the existence of a secret santa being proof that it was pre-meditated are fantastic. It really seems that they have found the one thing people won't stand for; spaff public money on your bit on the side and it's no prob, pursue cack-handed policies that means thousands of unnecessary deaths and no-one gives a shit, waste 37bn on track and trace that never worked, give countless contracts to cronies who pocketed the money and failed to deliver, make a right royal shit show of brexit so shelves are bare and people are queueing for petrol, get slapped down by the courts for unconstitutional actions, say the wrong thing so a britsh citizen is detained in Iran.... etc etc none of these things seem to matter. But now this stupid party is looking like a real problem for them. I think it rubbed people up the wrong way that they got so many people to issue statements saying "the rules were followed at all times" and then refuse to answer any follow ups about how they knew or how that could be or what that meant in practice - the whole fucking army of robots parroting this obviously dishonest line surely can't have helped. In fact their obvious lying in general... but then again it's not been a problem before so you can understand why they tried it.

I'm also seeing this

Conservative MPs & govt friendly media have been informed by the UK govt that the govt took “discreet legal advice” in the last weeks on whether Covid rules actually “apply to crown properties”… …even as they were insisting in public that no Covid rules were broken.

I think the implication is that they were hoping that it would turn out there was a loophole with the law not applying there and so - once they had had that confirmed - they could have totally switched to "Yeah, there was a fucking party with hundreds of people stuck into one tiny room gorging themselves on expensive liquor and cigars and so on - but laws don't apply there cos it's a crown property so, strictly speaking, as we said in our countless identical statements, no laws were broken at any time - told you so you fucking plebs, we are the rulers and we do what we fucking like so suck it the fuck up you litlte bitches nyaaah nyaaah nyah nyaaah nyahhh"

But that hasn't happened so I am assuming that they didn't get the response they were hoping for.

There may have been 3 different parties apparently.

This one might do some damage. An early Xmas present.

Yeah was reading that just now, I already knew about two but now it seems that there were three parties that didn't happen.

Simon Case, the cabinet secretary and the UK’s most senior civil servant, would investigate the circumstances surrounding the video and the facts surrounding what happened on 18 December last year.
However, later it emerged that this investigation would not cover another party believed to have taken place in Downing Street on 27 November, at which Johnson himself is said to have given a speech, or a third party alleged by former aide Dominic Cummings to have happened in the prime minister’s flat on 13 November. A spokeswoman for Carrie Johnson has previously denied there was a party in the flat on that date.

Either way, Johnson was shocked and angered to see that Allegra woman joking about the party that didn't happen.

Before taking any questions, Johnson told the Commons he was “also furious to see that clip”, saying: “I can understand how infuriating it would be to think that the people who have been setting the rules have not been following the rules.”
He continued: “I apologise unreservedly for the offence that it has caused up and down the country, and apologise for the impression that it gives.”
To jeers from the opposition benches, Johnson said he had no personal knowledge of any party. He said: “I repeat that I have been repeatedly assured since these allegations emerged that there was no party, and that no Covid rules were broken.”

If there was no party I do sort of wonder why she had to resign for joking about it though. What exactly is it that meant she had to go? Is it cos her joiking about it gave the - obviously completely wrong and misleading - impression that there was a party? Or is it that parties are simply not a joking matter in this day and age and so her laughing about one is the equivalent of someone being racist or homophobic?

As PM or as a party host? Anyway, right now the issue is not an either or type thing, forget Starmer for the moment, this is just about the sheer joy of watching a bunch of lying arseholes twisting and turning on an incredibly triival hook of their own making. They obviously want to lie their heads off SPOILER like Orson Welles in F is for Fake after his hour has expired. Of course they want to insist that "there was definitely no party, I have investigated and I know that for certain" but they can't be sure what is out there, what videos were made and may surface, they have to use lots of "I don't recall" and "I am not aware of" in case a video of them doing the conga through the house with a lopsided Christmas crown on their head, kicking their leg totally out of time and spilling sherry all over the carpet. It's lovely watching them suffer like that.

Do we think Allegra is just a sacrifice? I watched her video again, it makes no sense.

"my remarks seemed to make light of the rules, rules that people were doing everything to obey, that was never my attention, I will regret my remarks for the rest of my days"

So she resigns for a very mild joke about how the regulations should or shouldn't relate to a party that didn't happen? Come on.
