Loved all of Big Star's albums. But what about his solo stuff? Did he do anything worthwhile after Big star? I know he produced the Cramps 1st album....

saw big star, or at least its remnants, in London 8 years ago

he was just wonderful, there was soul and white heat in him when he sang those lovely old songs

i was really surprised and moved by his performance

and he was dressed like a Dad, which I liked too

Darned cockwombles.
Ballad of El Goodo is one of the most inspirational songs ever recorded.

Years ago my heart was set to live, oh
And I've been trying hard against strong odds
It gets so hard in times like now to hold on
Well, I'll fall if I don't fight
At my side is God

RIP.

That lyric in '13'

`Won't you tell your Dad, get off my back
tell him what we said 'bout paint it black'

I was always took that to mean that Alex and the girl referred to her father as a kill joy, who, in metaphorical terms, wanted to paint red doors black.

Beast of Burden
But you know what I mean. Never got this. Am I too hard-nosed? No soul? (I have a big nose, but no soul??)

"like flies on sherbert" and this lost decade episode i remember as fertile.

legendary... very sad indeed... saw him live a few times... shook his hand once... always managed to be smoking something exotic during in the street... oh dear...

a friend of me sent me a text message the other day reporting that big star was playing in a coffee shop it concluded with 'how cool is that?'...

went to school with someone called alex chilton too...

can feel a chilton-listening weekend coming up...

his vocals in the box tops are amazing, when you realize he was still a teenager when they broke up... and not just for the gruff lived-in rasp of "the letter", either... his timing and feel are amazing... was just listening to their version of "you keep me hangin' on"...
