LA-based Dubspot Instructor, Ableton Expert, and electronic music producer Steve Nalepa takes us step by step through the process of creating a dubstep style track in Ableton Live (these techniques can be used for any style – not just dubstep.) In part 1, Nalepa starts with a basic beat, uses the Impulse instrument to create the beat and then gives tips on how to make it more interesting. In part 2, Nalepa adds groove, a bass line and some VST effects. Check out how the track shapes up in video 3.

Ah thanks man i've just heard about this dubstepping stuff and really wanted to get involved! The only thing was, the beats were too complex for me to get my head around. This post literally solves all my problems.

yeah shame if regular people picked up cheap ubiquitous instruments and used them to churn out similar but permutated takes on a form for fun and potential profit... fucking punks*+, who do they think they are?!

*ok no one needed videos to tell them how to play punk
+biggest difference to me is i actually like a lot of punk. 🤷

Which VST effects did Dubstep pioneer Jim Carrey use in The Mask?

Also, what's the best mic for Dubstep?
