scott's a nice guy. met him once in covent garden.
Yeah, he's a dude, no doubt. Great taste in beer. He came to a party at my house once, got wasted, and tried it on with literally everyone there, but in such a charming way that I don't think anyone minded.

It's very sincere! It's my first reaction: surprise and gratitude.

On reflection though, I must say it was particularly kind of you and Jenks to both send the essay to people outside our charmed circle. I am genuinely delighted when somebody does that.

Uncle Burt says "a very perceptive and interesting analysis of US politics.... I seem to have acquired 1000 rounds of ammo so I'm not worried" 😂

He's the boomers boomer. He's even got a ponytail. Bald at the front. Smokes weed with me when I see him and talks about the first time he heard the Rolling Stones. He's great. Best uncle.

kudos to you, sir - that rarest of things, a worthy conclusion to a trilogy

some questions on reading

without Palin, what do you think the chances of Trump happening in more or less the same way are?

That is, how much do you the think this populist takeover of the GOP was inevitable vs hinging on a single - fateful, hasty, avoidable - decision?

do you think she was a viable candidate in 2012? I don't, but I'm curious whether you do.

how closely do you think Thatcher/Palin comparisons can be drawn?

Obv key shared beliefs, but Palin comes from much further outside the respective political class, and different political traditions
