The Kingdom

Not seen for aeons, quality diversion from night shift strangeness courtesy of LVT. Just finished the last episode of S1, with Mrs Drusse tackling ghosts and Dr Stig Helmer trying to steal (and eat) a report on his surgical competence, before running off to Haiti to source zombie magic

Divine madness. Love the roaming camera work. The intro and outro, its mix of archaic and contemporary worldviews, the past as alive with agency and overall surrealism combining daytime soap with psychological horror

It’s been a very long time squire, ta for a useful reminder for annual leave over christ’s mass

One of the reasons for checking in with Riget again was reading there’s a 3rd series pending, fuck knows when. In the meantime

Got a working laptop at last so decided to give The White Lotus a go as I saw it tipped here... just digging into second episode and enjoying it. I enjoy this sort of stuff - by which I mean things with no particular plot but in which to make up for that you are immersed into a particular tiny world along with a load of characters and things just kinda develop - more and more these days. Obviously the idea of staying in a luxury hotel in paradise always holds some appeal, but right now it is even more attractive - especially if I could share the experience with a load of socially misfitting multimillionaire mega-arseholes, weirdly enough.

Taken a few shifts to chip through Life of Crime. 3 friends from NJ are profiled from the mid 80’s onward. All 3 are deep into coke and heroin. The weight of it comes from home video footage complete with family and friends, the chronological framing, who kicks/relapses and who doesn’t

The first third is an 80’s time capsule of petty theft, but as the years take their toll you can’t look away. A pinnacle in documentary features, loaded with humour, horror and tragedy

Watched Green Frontier recently and halfway through The North Water atm.

The former's a Colombian detective thing in the rainforest and centred around the murder of a group of nuns, the latter's set aboard a whaling ship in the 1800s and in a similar vein to The Terror.

@version Nope, slogging through care plans. Reminds me of

It's a limited series, only five episodes, and it's on iPlayer for the next year or so. Colin Farrell's in it as a big, dangerous Irishman,

Enjoyed "Green Frontier" cheers. Sort of reminded me of true detective first season. She's quite an impenetrable main character.

Finally starting Succession series three... so long since the last one though, really struggling to remember who is who, never mind what is happening...

Family are away visiting family, so watched ep1 of the Green Frontier high as fuck sat in my kegs. Small mercies. Good start, old lad from Embrace of the Serpent shows up, which was nice. Not expecting miracles as there's never been more shit tv
