hello, i've generally been more of a voyeur than a participant at dissensus but i thought, if i can't get any answers here then i might as well give up.

I've got two tracks from a mixtape i've had for yonks - they're both really great but i have no idea what they are. i've been searching for years and now the tape's so degraded that i need (NEED) to find them elsewhere so they aren't lost forever (as haunto-romantic as that notion might be).

you can listen here - .

one reminds me of dj vadim and the other of, maybe, meat beat manifesto? or something similar. i'm fairly sure that it's neither of those though...

if the new grove encyclopaedia of dissensus can't help, then surely no-one can.

thanks!

Second one sounds like the hip hop stuff on Schematic, Beta Bodega (and off shoots), Merck, Chocolate Industries etc.

But I don't know the track, sorry.

Yeah, Id say the same. Id expect that stuff to be later though: 97-2000. Its not an early Schematic and they were the only label of that ilk around in the mid-90s.

First tune sounds like OK Ninja. Maybe not Vadim, but something not a million miles away. Sorry.

Track 1 reminds me of a lot of early Dj Food stuff I had. But youve probably checked that already since youve mentioned it sounds like early ninja tune

Track 2 reminds me of a cd i havent heard in about 4 or 5 years, and I no longer have it to check it out.

T.Power - Waveform. He jumps from ambient to downtempo to weird ambient-jungle in it, so its not too far off. Other than that, my first guess would have been some of the Renegade Soundwave dub releases.

Good luck.

Something makes me want to say that the first one is on Twisted Nerve... someone like Sirconical maybe?

EDIT: ah - Andy Votel remix of Mr Scruff?

AHA. a sea mammal remix sounds very promising. i can't find any audio to confirm but it may well be it... cheers!

i've checked all the renegade soundwave i can for the second track and no joy - though there are two tracks from the in dub album on that tape. likewise t power, also used to have that and haven't listened in years but i don't recognise it from that. good call though, totally forgot about him.
