well this is one of the main issues isn't it - that sort of spirit has been crushed now. utterly eviscerated.

do New Yorkers still eat hot dogs?
they are few and far between and are mostly in tourist areas from what i can tell.

new yorkers eat all kinds of different foods from around the world, which have been adapted to a moderately uniform taste. it's great, you can go to mexican restaurants, indian restaurants, moroccan restaurants, and they pretty often don't taste very much like food from any of those countries. there's exceptions of course but that's my experience.

its the account of a boy from the back of beyond trying and failing to make it in New York, its written retrospectively, as a licking of wounds. it's more coherent that it looks at first glance. its by a member of this board and is a true story.

suspended reason, or Gus as he is affectionately known. he is the driving force behind the exhaustive 'Brooklyn Cultural Mafia' thread where he collates all his favourite sexy e-girls.

what Leo said, you guys need to stop buying into the narrative of decline so easily.

In Greek mythology, each successive generation of mythical characters was described as being measurably weaker than the last. They went from being able to lift rocks the size of houses to being...well..human. It's in our biology to assume that the remembered or half-remembered past is superior to the present.

Also may I ask whether most of you guys are past the 'youthful optimism and naivete' stage of life?

I'm not saying London isn't full of hipsters and that the smoking ban hasn't been bad for clubs, mind.
Timeless post.
