Alternative Metal

OK, probably going to be flamed for this but I'd like to hear some good suggestions for great alternative metal. I've been a massive KoRn ( early ), Deftones, Tool, Dillinger Escape Plan, Converge, Neurosis and Isis fan for a while now - I'd basically like to hear from guys who like similar stuff - because I feel there is a place and time for drone and black metal but the alternative stuff has been and gone a little???

yeah - I know it's mathcore strictly but still looking for bands with some zest

Mr. Tea

Let's Talk About Ceps
There was ONE band worth listening to around that time:

(Edit: make that two if you even consider SYL and ZH separate bands, and they were much more on the drink-a-few-beers-and-have-a-laugh side of the metal spectrum, anyway.)

All these post-hardcore and nu-metal bands getting lumped together is weeeeeiiiiiird.

One of these days I'll just embed tracks from Faith No More's Angel Dust and kill the thread proper.

yeah - I guess post hardcore and nu-metal could be defined - but i'm more interested in the exciting stuff from a few years back overall - rather than anything current that fits these genres.

This is one of my favourite videos and songs from, yup kids, KoRn...

totalling ferraris, faking media intrusions and pressures, the narrative regression ( a total music video meme - anyone comments on this!??! ), the meta scaling of the dirty business men, horrid photographers etc dizzying.... - all their in it's hypocritical finery - all great. This was KoRn's coke LP, an anthem of being there and still owning, perhaps captured in a microcosm of Korn's dominance over old metal and other genre's as a Pharcyde member accepts the doomed sports car from Fieldy....

Oh, there's nothing interesting from both those genres in their current form these days. Still, there was this weird bleeding over period that happens when you have guys who have similar influences take you in entirely different directions. I mean, both Botch and Chevelle worship Helmet, but you'd never mistake them as the same band.

Some of my favorite jams from this era...

That borderline steel-drum sound at the end totally predicted the singer getting into world-music/post-rock. They really should've stuck together.

Can't embed this one, but a friggin classic. Embarrassingly enough, the dude behind Sleigh Bells left this band roughly around the time of this record.

<iframe width="425" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/gH7juq5S47s" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> The Korn talk is great, but admittedly, Korn stole SO MUCH from Justin Broadrick.
