Zomby has a very believable explanation of the Natalia's Song ting and which makes this dude ReArk or whatever look like a total tosser maniac. Quite a brilliant scheme really to trick a credit out the label..When the explanation comes out post legal business, the doubters are gonna be feelin dumb. Or mad they weren't right. Either way, Zomby didn't steal shit from that dude apart from the idea for the vocal sample. Oh well, can't go into it. Not my place to say anymore. Just know..

As far as sampling goes, I'm of the belief that everything is fair game tho obviously, sampling is an art. Getting it right is important.

You can't credit the uncredible - depends on each and every situation.
With Natalia's Song....Just wait til the story unfolds cus Reark gonna look dumb as hellll I swear. Not my place to divulge really...soon enough the story will be told. It's far from plagiarism tho.

"Whatever isn't nailed down is mine. Whatever I can pry loose isn't nailed down."

if artists act like robber barons they can't really be surprised that fans are seduced by the robin hood logic of places like the pirate bay etc.

I think stuff like sampling from youtube is really interesting but I've also got a vested interest in electronic musicians exploring (read: buying) electronic musical instruments as well so I can't help but see it as kind of a dead end street.

Isn't having an idea stolen a fairly well established rite of passage in the music game tho? I wonder if the sequencer in that 'evidence' youtube is a legit registered copy? The logic of the market really dictates that there only be two kinds of successful people nowadays; the quick & the dead.

I'm not making any judgements, just observations.

Some lovely kit there Doom.

gorgeous stuff doom

Thanks guys

The first is theft of an idea and using that idea to make money/get plaudits, the second is not paying for a programme. It's not like thieving the Reason architecture and selling it as your own.

I vaguely agree re Pirate Bay etc, but from my pov it's more the daylight robbery propagated by record companies for years in their mark-ups on records, videos, everything, that gave rise to the mentality that downloading is no big deal. Barely any of that money even reached the artist.

This thread is full of gold. But I have only heard one minute of Zomby's music and it was one minute more than enough.

i still think he could have wrote natalia's song like he says he did because it sounds like him. wouldnt be that surprised if when the full story emerges it turns out that he just nicked the vocal sample off reark

also i didnt like "dedication" much but really enjoyed "nothing", reminded me of autechre in places

the more tunes reark puts on his soundcloud the harder his story is to believe, even though it's a pretty solid story

zomby has made lots of great tunes, why would he need to steal a tune like that. You only need to look on youtube to see loads of unreleased tunes he could have put out instead of natalias song

Also another question that came to mind is why would he be collaborating with Reark in the first place?

Whole thing sounds weird would be v interested to know the truth behind it

I got his album out of the library the other day. This evening I put it on. If this is where music is at today, it's a very depressing state of affairs. Sorry if I sound like a moaning old bastard but it seems like I can only divine pleasure out of old Pink Floyd and 10cc records these days.

In any case, I totally stand behind what I said before. Utterly drab, devoid of any content. The rhythms are fucking mundane, the sounds hackneyed, any sense of development, tension or excitement lacking across the board. I am lost.

and he's a wanker to boot.

It's I hate myself music for people who dont have anything to hate, so they listen to Zomby and hate themselves. It's like aural television. Facebook sound.
