I like how they say Dancehall artistes in Jamaica, reclaiming its use from the 'high-art' discrimination, maybe it just never got re-appropriated there I don't know. I'd like to be a artiste one day, i've noticed that a clear signifier an aspiring artiste isn't a beret but a turtleneck. A good test for a true artiste is if you can survive socially whilst wearing a turtleneck, i've yet to know anyone who has though.
