Jesus, I can feel a major Detroit techno reinvestigation coming on (will re-read those awesome Woebot posts on Chicago/Detroit classics for inspiration).

My ten current inspirations:
1. T.I. - What You Know
2. Erick Morillo's DJ sets
3. Francoiz Breut
4. Hyphy
5. Black Box Recorder - The New Diana
6. ABBA
7. Lily Allen voodoo dolls
8. Sugar Rush
9. Anticipating this week's Junior Boys gig
10. Dean Wareham

1)kicking a football at a row of milk bottles lined up on a wall, its the new game taking the carpark by storm.
2)football tennis with a piece of broken off drainpipe balanced between two traffic cones for a net. a bit passe now the milk bottle game is in full swing but still a classic.
3)Lambic beers. the best beers going. brewed with wild yeast from under a peasants toenails. not the fruit ones though.
4)john wayne films.
5)sam cooke.
6)bhel puri.

those are the only good things in my life at the moment as far as i can remember.

Beast of Burden
1) philly cheesesteaks made with extra mushrooms, pecorino and chipotle sauce
2) weekend trips to barcelona (just got back and am knackered, but slightly more tanned and a lot more happy)
3) trae - restless - rap a lot is this the realest houston rap album yet? i think it possibly might be. completely haunted feel to it and a real sense of sadness and loss, what with all the references to screw, fat pat, hawk etc, but still full of guts.
4) the federation - i wear my stunna glasses at night - virgin absolutely flipping ridiculous record, seriously, quite easily one of the stupidest records i've heard this year.
5) the leaks of the new outkast album that i've heard so far. good to hear 'dre back on the mic properly.
6) chico - do this right - 40/40 Lenky and Chico go together like... well, i dunno what really. They just work in a perfect kind of way.
7) junior boys - so this is goodbye - Domino Can't wait for this week's show, either.
8) christina aguilera - aint no other man - rca i luv xtina anyway, but this is a total killer - premier's absolutely back on track with this and i'm seriously looking forward to hearing chamillionaire on the remix. absolutely flawless, ballsy, danceable pop music.
9) keihl's grapefruit shower gel.
10) the new miami vice film.

1) DJ RUPTURE -LOW INCOME TOMMOROWLAND MIX

Bit late on this, but better than any 2006 releases I've heard so far (which isn't many)

2) MY NEW JOB

More dosh, nice spacious West End office (no more striplit cattle-class banks of desks flooded with unopened mail and stained with 4am deadline-surfers' kebab grease and drool), hot girls who look so out of my league it'd be like Stenhousemuir taking on Real Madrid - but mostly friendly with it. And my mate's my boss! 2 hour lunchbreaks and stuff

3) PRE-CARNIVAL BUILD-UP

Yeah, blah blah, too many people, dangerous, all commercial these days, yadda yadda - I'm right up for it though, as always

4) DJ RAP - "INTELLIGENCE"

Retro pleaure number 1 : I'd forgotten just how fucking stunning this album is - experimental, exciting and pushing jungle's boundaries without sacrificing bass power or the ragga connection (unlike "Timeless", which I also dug up recently, and got bored of within 20 minutes). Funny remembering the old days when she used to wear a baseball cap and CK undies under her bomber jacket, as opposed to the dress / high heels type poses she strikes these days. Needs some sort of critical reappraisal but sadly (probably) won't get one. Metalheadz' output is just anaemic froth compared to this.

5) THE WOODBINE

Best pub on Blackstock Road by a mile

6) LOCOMOTIVE LEIPZIG

My new adopted German football team (St Pauli are way too commercial)

7) ALDEN TYRELL - TIMES LIKE THESE CD

8) END OF THE HEATWAVE

Memo for all you cunts who've spent the last 3 weeks in shorts and sandals - we're geographically closer to the North Pole than Bangkok - something is seriously wrong here! You've been sticking 2 fingers up at concerns about global warming while thousands of Asian, African and South American villages go without water, you smug complacent showoff pricks! Hope the temperature drops to 0 degrees and we get snow between now and next April. (except for Carnival weekend, obviously)

9) LIVER, BACON, MASH, GRAVY

Retro pleasure number 2 : Haven't had this in years, it's lush

10 BLACK WIDOW

Retro pleasure no. 3: lethal 1980s catapult, back on sale in a dodgy shop near Soho! One of these and a carton of ball bearings, and you can make the 'happy slappers' look like a bunch of French mime artists. Seriously dangerous and irresponsible, but you should see what these do to car windscreens (except don't, cos it's illegal and stupid)

i have one of those. i cannot believe that they aren't illegal...

you can also use large marbles instead of ball bearings if you want to mix things up a little

A mate of mine asked for a CD of some "bangers that aren't too weird or obscure, none of that IDM bollox."

So I did him a little comp CD:

Bassment Jaxx feat Glamma Kid: "Fly Life"
Robin S: "Show Me Love"
187 Lockdown: "Gunman"
Sneaker Pimps "Spin, Spin Sugar" (Armand Van Helden Remix)
Micronauts: "The Jag"
Motorbass: "Ezio"
Azzido Da Bass: "Doom's Night"
Scott Mills: "Mothership Connection" (Daft Punk Remix)
Ettienna De Crecy: "Fast Track"
Vitalic: "Candy"
I.F. : "Space Invaders Are Smoking Grass"
Roman Flugel: "Geht's Noch"

In no particular order, although I put the more garagey stuff at the start and it gets more electroish towards the end. Just some bits and pieces for him to check out.
