Feel like I've got an excuse to now post this classic video from Moss Side Community Centre 1986

does anyone know what the tune is in this at around 2:30 - 2:40 - it feels really familiar, like a fairly classic early 80s electro hook, but i can't place it. would love to know

I was wondering that too when I saw the video. I seem to know somewhere the tune in the back of my head. Something on DJ International perhaps

Is crossing over into UK Lovers territory allowed?
It was allowed in the late 80s / early 90s...UK Lovers certainly crossed over into Street Soul back then..this track was produced by a guy from the Roots Reggae scene ( Derek Février, uncredited on the labels ) and voiced by Kofi, who before recording with Mad Professor was in Lovers Rock group Brown Sugar along with Caron Wheeler

Kofi - Step by Step ( Smoothed Out Mix ) ( version, because I like the bass line )

cool idea for a thread. i've been listening to the Smith & Mighty essential mix a lot recently and loving these tracks. Would love to hear more stuff like this.

Walk on

Anyone

Carlton

Any love

look of love

i had this mix on during the afternoon. So good. Apart from maybe the slightly dodgy rapping at times... Where it's really strong is the female soul singing over the big pads. And the More Rockers jungle sound is really unique - seems to come at things in a totally different way to metalheadz/london way.
