I want to watch something funny

Darned cockwombles.
You know what - I've only just realised that there are multiple Yes Men films on that site - http://www.filmsforaction.org/watch/the_yes_men/ - this is the one I watched, rather than the one I gave the link to. I was sitting reading your description, and wondering how my memory of the film had got(ten) quite that bad. 'It's almost like he watched a whole different film. Ohhhh....'

But that's fantastic - means there's a whole other feature length film for me (and you) to enjoy.

The one bit of the later film I have seen is the Bhopal interview, on youtube. Agree that what the newsreader said kind of missed the point of the whole exercise; as you say, it's the opinion of the local people that's the important one.

PS I'm always unsure of what Chris Morris' politics are. His stuff usually circles around politics, but his primary inclination seems simply to puncture pomposity/disingenousness wherever it occurs

Ha, that makes sense - you said something about 'the intro with the Barbie doll' when you linked to it in that other thread, and I was left wondering what you were banging on about...

I don't think Morris has a politics, he's just motivated by surrealism, cynicism and perversity.

anyone watched the us office?

I have come to enjoy it. It does still pale in comparison to the original and I find pretty much all of the characters irritating but steve carell caries it for me. If i start comparing it to the original I like it less but compared to most us comedy I see I much prefer it.

30 Rock.

It kind of lost it's "heart" a bit as it went on and became kind of formulaic but it's extremely efficient in consistently delivering laffs in the way that's pretty much unique to the better US sitcoms. Nothing cheers me up like an episode of 30 Rock. Sometimes I feel like my id is living vicariously through Jenna Maroney.

Parks and Recreation is awesome. Similar to the US Office or Arrested Development.

It's Kevin on BBC2 is super as well. It's by Kevin Eldon who has been in almost every quality UK comedy of the last decade or so. Surreal humour in a similar vein to Bill Bailey or Stewart Lee

All this Iannucci talk reminded me to say Larry Sanders. I have enjoyed Eastbound & Down a lot recently but it probably doesn't belong in such hallowed company.

Also the scene in The Pope of Greenwich Village when the guy comes back with no thumb cracks me up every time.
Just watched the pope of Greenwich village, its fucking brilliant, can't believe I've never seen it, or that no one's mentioned it on here in 9 years.

Very funny like blacktulip sez, sort of like a funny, more ramshackle goodfellas or sopranos. It's all in thd period details, early 80s NYC coming off like a dainty European city or something. Brilliant scene where Eric Roberts (Julia's brother) makes a huge salami sandwich.

LOL, no, no incest involved. Eric and Julia are brother and sister. Eric married someone and Emma is their daughter from that marriage, which makes her Julia's niece.

I watched a favourite oldie on Saturday night, Intolerable Cruelty with Catherine Zeta-Jones & George Clooney. There's something about the American comedy which, when they get it right, is absolutely pitch-perfect. It's such a great film.

Ah OK, got you. But there is a rumour about Eric and Julia. They had some terrible childhood or something. Can't remember where I heard it.
