Who started this trend for music appended to action in movie scenes...appropriate music doesn't just magically appear to accompany people's actions in real life. So artificial! Is it because films were originally accompanied by people playing piano in the theatre because otherwise it would be completely silent but once we were able to hear the actors they forgot to get rid of the music. Sure, you're used to it but in most parallel universes this problem has already been fixed.

Pathe news when silent was accompanied was music but news nowadays isn't but it would probably be better than music, so perhaps that's the oversight.

new eno documentary sounds interesting -
“Why do films have to be the same every time?” asks Gary Hustwit, as we sit in a dressing room backstage in a Copenhagen theatre at the documentary festival CPHDOX. “The idea of film as this linear, static, fixed piece of media needs to be evolved. It's based on a technical constraint that we don't have any more since everything is digital.”
