Jeez this set is fucking evil. Paul Robinson's calling it hybrid house, maybe it's too dark for Datwun and Continuum but this is always the direction I wanted the sound to go in, proper junglist vibes, not merely as a sound source or a lineage but that claustrophobia. Particularly 96 techstep. No U-Turn house.

implying the racism and snobbery came from the top down from the jamie jones' of the world and that deep tech was a threat to their position

Sounds about right. I remember the anti shufflers 2012-13 being the Jamie Jones types, which was doubly ironic for me as I thought they were far too mainstream enough themselves when I was blowing my brains out going to see some brummie geezer on too much gak called Regis and his mate from barnsley called Blawan spearheading the hard techno revival long before anyone else.

did try to watch that doc but got bogged down in the personal politics. most of the big guys went trad, ibiza sound, some of it went afro like antony ranz, perch and them are still doing it but it's definitely more tech-leaning than ever before

Yes please, give me the most techiest evil shit please like that Paul Robinson mix. don't want nth hardcore/jungle samples, just bleep n bass modernised for the 2021 london dystopia.

yeah im well aware it's not really new. But it's the sound that I perhaps unfairly want to become more dominant, where it actually sounds more London to me, (re)interfacing with that bleep and bass lineage, but with all the utopian trappings stripped out. Oris Jay is a good shout.

talking about new/old in a genre as entrenched and solidified as house (in whichever variety) seems redundant to me, like some exercise in overfetishisation of innovation.

I got an angry face emoji from him on the afro house thread for saying jackin was the last fun uk house music scene. Sorry, @trilliam !!!

Yes well you're not a born Londoner, so won't fully click with the anti-fun impulse in the dark underbelly of this city. It's like all those doncaster, manchester and leeds lot, they always have to have pop/rnb acapellas with their dance music. which is ok, i got no issue with it, but they are too spread out for proper skunk paranoia. In fact I used to get mad cold (as in shivering) in the northern clubs cos the dancefloor really thins out at 3-4 AM. In london the paranoia takes you away to a gnostic zone after the 15th unfiltered spliff.
