The Outsider Disco Thread

In which we share strange, inept or exploito gems from the disco era:
Kenneth Higney - Funky Kinky:

Think I prefer the lp version of the Bob Chance track.

That Funky Kinky one is great/terrible.

The Terry Brooks sounds almost like some of that Velvet Tinmine stuff - it's almost glam. Maybe a bit like this one

Let's Talk About Ceps
That Terry Brooks track has a Zappa-ish, almost verging on Mr Bungle sound...

This is from Led Zeppelin's last proper studio album, from 1979. There's surprisingly little guitar in it, mainly because Jimmy Page was pretty consistently smacked off his tits at the time, so Jones wrote most of the music and drenched every track in Fairlight. This is, bizarrely enough, their stab at disco. It starts out with the cheesiest keyboards known to man but then goes into this slow, contemplative bit around 4 minutes and then gets weirdly quite good in a vaguely Stevie Wonder sort of way around the 7 minute mark:

Edit: basebeyondreason, how do you post embedded videos so they don't take up half the screen?

Not sure if this is qualifies but here's a Japanese oddity that might've been played out by a crazy DJ, dunno...

when i first saw the title of this thread, i immediately thought of arthur russell, who was certainly an avant-oddball. but he actually doesn't fit here because i assume you are discussing obscure stuff and some of his productions (somehow) managed to become massively popular and are now considered classics ("go bang", "is it all over my face", etc.). that's pretty weird, and cool.

Hey Leo I think Arthur Russell fits in this thread 100% I mean his Indian Ocean track "School Bell/Treehouse" is 100% weird disco.

ok! yeah, he's definitely offbeat, i just thought maybe this thread was for more obscure artists. he produced well-known tracks.

Great thread, heard the Bob Chance track in a Daphni mix late last year and it has been in heavy rotation ever since. Looking forward to checking these out.

This was in the same Daphni mix:

Maybe more of a space rock / proggy vibe, but it is very dancey imo.

This was played out by DJ Fat Ronny (cool name) in the Antwerp club Ancienne Belique. Not strictly disco but...

This song actually got brought up in Peter Shapiro's disco book (which I'm still peeling through), so I mean... It makes the cut in SOME regard.

I guess that was a big Larry Levan spin or so I've read.

A few years back Morgan Geist did a comp or mix called Unclassics which was probably conceived along similar lines to this thread. I remember thinking that a few of the tracks were just probably rubbish but maybe I'd think differently now. Some info about it here anyway

Also, not sure if this is outsider (it's from a film so probably not) but the video is perfectly on that weird/good/terrible boundary. I love it.

Wow, I need to find this film.
Some great stuff mentioned, Arthur Russell is kinda the acceptable face of this since his records are actually, unequivocally good.
Here's one from Sun Ra:

Most of the stuff in the first post is stuff mentioned in the Acid Archives book, quite interesting how many of those private press/tax scam guys dabbled in disco. Still want to hear Whale - Disco Fred and Sage - Rock it Out.

Oh, and can anyone I.D. this weird Italo-ish track I heard a few years back. Cheesy S&M themed thing with whip-cracking sounds and the line "you love the whip"?

Just bumping this thread (which should really be much bigger!) with some tenuously disco greatness, Sondra Prill. I dont know shit about her really except she was apparently a big miami public access tv thing??

This is my favourite though (her cover of 'Pump Up the Jams' for the beach):

Nice revive!
Few more from my collection (veering more into boogie/electro at times):

Matchez - Out to Lunch

Spooky - Digital Readout

Michael Garrett - Funk Fix

And one I'm determined to own some day (maybe more leftfield than bona-fide outsider, by the man who could have been, if not the Lee Perry, then at least the Keith Hudson of 70s soul):
