Getting dangerously close to Daft Punk saturation point? Want to push yourself over the edge? For its very first outing, Sonic Celluloid will be immersing itself in the Daft Arts to present you a double-bill of films created by the Gallic disco robotniks, for a celebration of Daft Punk on the big screen.

Interstella 5555: The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem (2003)

This intergalactic Japanese anime was soundtracked by Daft Punk's 2001 smash Discovery. Co-created with Japanese anime legend Leiji Matsumoto, it tells the tale of a chartbusting pop group that’s kidnapped during concert by an evil corporation, then brainwashed and made to record soulless pop music for the masses. Somewhere between Saturday morning classic Jem and the Holograms and music industry send-up The Saddest Music in the World, this is an epic space-opera you can't help but love.

“The fantastic culmination of years of artistic dedication” - Pitchfork
“A visual and aural treat of intergalactic proportions - not to be missed” – BBC Film
“Charming, entertaining… great stuff” – Film 4

Electroma (2006)

A robot road movie set in the Californian desert, Daft Punk’s directorial debut after working with the likes of Spike Jonze and Michel Gondry is a poetic and surreal visual feast telling the story of two aliens who fall to earth on a quest for human identities. With a soundtrack including Brian Eno, Todd Rundgren, Sebastien Tellier and stunning special effects from makeup maverick Tony Gardner, Electroma - rightly described by its makers as "music for the eyes" - is a Parisian midnight movie favourite that has to be experienced on the big screen.

“Destined to become cult viewing for generations not yet born” – The Guardian
“Nodding at the likes of 2001, The Passenger and Gerry, ‘Electroma’ is a gorgeously photographed trip” – Time Out
"Daft Punk is doing for midnight movies what the French electronica maestros did for disco: injecting the faded genre with their own brand of vitamin cool" - WIRED
