RAP 2014

heavy heavy monster sound
and yeah Giggs was the first person I heard rapping in that slow way in the UK. The Skrapz/Giggs tune on that mixtape is the best Giggs has been for a while.

Do not read this.
Love that Chief Keef – ‘Tec’ track, the way the kick comes in it’s so off, and on the verse about ‘let him come up in this fucking house, pistol to his motherfucking mouth’, his delivery is second to none.

@CrowleyHead mm, I preferred 1017 to the black Portland tape, although the Portland instrumentals were certainly alot more banging, 1017 is alot more out there instrumental wise (strange things...god i love that track)

definitely shouldn't be anything too surprising listed above, but it seems like another good year so far to me! thugger's obviously the one at the moment, as is dj mustard...his show at the London Edition with YG was nuts apparently, queues around the block.

young thug is what I always hear coming out of cars playing rap around me here in sarrrf london though atm...jeezy's obviously been mentioned already, but i really like his stuff atm. lil durk and chief keef too, think the new stuff is great. don't know anything about him but like a couple of tunes on audiomack from dat boy hot, he's got a good flow i think. young dolph's new singles i like too!

that OG Bobby Johnson tune by Que obviously came out at the end of last year but has been a big anthem out and about in clubs this year ennit...that intro still sounds so good banging out on a big rig...went off when the DJ played it before Pusha T at KOKO back in June...

glad this thread's back up and running! i had no idea about that PARTYNEXTDOOR tune with Drake in it but I think that's great...

Only found out today that the hook to My Nigga was nicked off Wayne's Drought 3 mixtape. (Which I listened to today and which is one of the best mixtapes I've ever heard FYI if you're an ignoramus/naive Bambi in the concrete jungle. I'm not so into Dedication 2 which every other mutha bums for some reason. But Drought 3 he has a legit Best Rapper Alive claim.)

Young Thug is all good for hilarious noises ATM but who's the best rappity rapper? Kendrick, I suppose? King Los and Meek Mill have that shouty puppy dog style down but I dunno I can't stand a whole tape of either. I completely changed my mind about Roc Marciano a long time ago. Everything he spits on Reloaded is a quotable. I guess Drake is THAT guy atm, something about him makes me want to puke tho.

BTW I'm guessing this phenomenon came from Cam'ron, Jeezy and Ross. The holy trinity of slow spitting coke rappers.

I finally got around to listening to Migos Young Rich Niggas today. It's pretty great - reminds me of Gucci in his prime (The Movie 1 / Writing On The Wall times).

I know this is old news to most people but for those who haven't checked Migos beyond ''Versace'' yet, it's well worth it.

No fuck it DEFINITELY worth shouting about Migos. I love "Hannah Montana" - banger and the lyrics are really funny.

This one's all over audiomack atm and i like it.

Also "No Flex Zone" has to be one of the rap tunes of the year surely. I know nothing about them / their credentials but it's an anthem, the dudes looks about 15 and they're definitely having a LOT of fun in the video.

Can't get "lifestyle" by rich gang out of my head.

Migos "NO LABEL 2" might be the best Mixtape I've heard all year. You sort of get sick of their style after two songs but simultaneously you can't stop listening cos every tracks a banger. Love Zaytoven so much, one of the weirdest producers around and its good to hear him being done justice by some young Guccis.

I think it did although Triggz had a slow kinda flow before Giggs was big

and blade brown & young spray did too

Cool cool, I don't know anything about UK rap I'll admit that. TBH the flow on this track (and on a lot of Giggs stuff I've heard) is more indebted to Cam than anyone else as far as I can tell.

That track you've posted samples the opening song in Disney's Hunchback of Notre Dame.

So, to bring myself back from non-posting death....

Not been listening to much rap lately but that could be about to change, as the new Keef stuff is blowing my mind. Never thought he'd sounded up sounding this damn spacey, bearing in mind what his earlier stuff was like.

OG Bobby Johnson tune by Que obviously came out at the end of last year but has been a big anthem out and about in clubs this year ennit...

The Kevin Gates freestyle on this was incredible I can't believe there's not more love for him in this thread. Tightest rapper I've heard for a while.

Gates is one of those rappers who I really rate (more as a hook singer, actually - the "Hold Ya Head" hook for example) but don't actually enjoy listening to that much for whatever reason. You should listen to his Combat Jack interview if you haven't. He's somewhere in between "quite a character" and completely nuts.

yes who is doing stuff in Philly , Blahnik, SASHA maybe the local heterosexual populace has something on offer. spice is a man now so anything is possible short of hell freezing over

on Schmurda remixes - how do you even begin sifting through them?
