Cynicism / paranoia also leads to suspecting this is a means to pull in millions of hopeful and ignorant new traders to be absolutely rinsed in the rigged game. Casino marketing technique

Ie covid freeze, Consumer spending slowing, everyone playing it safe with their savings. How do we shake this up and get more liquidity and risky irrational behaviours to exploit ... get all the proles into stocks.

So the deal being kept is quite a sacrosanct thing? And this is what the US government are now trying to renege ON? probably more complicated, I don't really understand this...
When you write an option then you are signing a legal contract to honour it as far as I've always understood.
Robinhood isn't letting people off their contracts as far as I know, just stopping more people piling in - which can potentially change the value of the contracts people are holding.

That was an incredible read.

So- can you short the banks? If you had 50k you could start a fund as a hobby and just liquidate. Insurance might be tricky but llps are allowed to trade, no..?
You can short sell shares in a bank (or some kind of banking sector tracker) or you could buy puts or sell calls, or there are numerous other ways you can bet on their value going down. But how do you know they will go down?

GameStop has lost 72 percent over two days, $423 to $90. Which stock is next?

I guess we'll need to wait until the book (which is undoubtably being written) to know the full details of what happened and why it went back down.

That would be my guess yeah, but as they won't admit it's hard to know for certain. Possibly catalysed by the Robin Hood thing preventing more little guys from investing so they knew it wouldn't go higher.

but how many little guys are going to keep buying when it's over $400 a share? Sure, they pile in when it's $10 or $30, but after awhile, the reality of their budget hits.
