I probably had, I dunno, 5, dud photos for every one worth keeping. I'm a very, very slow learner but you do begin to internalise the kind of parameters you have to work with. You learn to say, for example, yes, that would be a great picture, but it's too dark so there's no point pressing the button. You get ever so slightly better at holding the thing straight and so on and so forth.

But it's definitely very exciting waiting to get the pictures back. Addictive. It can be a crushing disappointment of course. It's always a disappointment to a degree. But you also get happy accidents.

I'd just got back to the country after almost three years away and this helped me kind of connect with the place again. That was one impulse. The other was that I knew all this was doomed. I had no doubt in my mind that it was the end. So that was the other incentive. To make a record before it was all taken away.

Some of the graffiti fixes it to a particular time. Did anyone notice the rain man tag in one of them? Or the big capital letter above. They were showing up a lot. I think it was Eine doing them. Sort of circus style font.

You were allowed to wear terrible clothes and walk around stoned all day and not have any plans for the future. Be a normal person with nothing going for you. Simpler then.

I think we are all nostalgic for the real world and her work certainly taps into that

The built environment is the locus of memory

always nice when you see posts here that succinctly articulate stuff that was circling around in the back of your mind

To answer that deleted post, it's the graphic design influence. A lot of contemporary art is not art, it's just design.
