On August 11, 1984, President Ronald Reagan makes a joking but controversial off-the-cuff remark about bombing Russia while testing a microphone before a scheduled radio address. While warming up for the speech, Reagan said “My fellow Americans, I am pleased to tell you today that I’ve signed legislation that will outlaw Russia forever. We begin bombing in five minutes.”
I did like the one where Bush is on the golf course and he says something like "Just thinking about a nuclear attack - now watch this drive" - what is it with US presidents and golf? US presidents and Iggy Pop - ok and my Dad - must make up about half the people in the world who like the "sport".
Reagan had his moments too of course. I think it's now pretty much accepted that he was suffering from dementia during most of his second term. Makes me almost regret that Trump didn't get one when you think about how much he might have degenerated by the end of that. Almost.
Either way surely this is one of the all time greatest presidential gaffes
My friend says Trump saying I won't be at the inauguration is code for "go ahead and bomb it/strafe it with automatic gunfire"... I didn't think of that.
