In court today - under questioning from Barret strangely enough - the Republican lawyer admitted that the GOP tactics are vote suppression.

Cos that's like a third of the country and they control the Republican party?

nah. a third of the country might like trump (for whatever reason) and hate the Dems, but that's not the same as believing Wood's nonsense. sure, they exist, but a much smaller percentage.

But it's WAY higher than it should be... or if it's not as high as it appears, it has a disproportionate influence. I do see the argument for rising above - and generally I'd probably agree. I just feel that with this lot you give them an inch and they take a yard you know?

disproportionate exposure, sure, but I don't think influence. media love conflict and crazy ("if it bleeds, it leads"), there's no incentive to write endless articles about normal people with moderate views...that ain't gonna sell papers! but pedo Clinton and lizard people, that shit sells!

Well you probably know better than me on this and I bow to your close-up view, but from here it feels that this kind of thinking is big enough to be dangerous. Also, unrelated to that point but sort of not, I feel if you can stop someone telling lies you should.

I agree. but while the first amendment has some limits -- slander, yelling "fire!" in a crowded theater, etc. -- it doesn't have many of them. it's not illegal to say lots of untrue things, so can't force people to stop saying them.

I'm not a lawyer but assume that accusing Roberts of being a pedo would be slander. claiming that the deep state had it in for trump, who is the blessed one sent by God to defeat the lizard people, would not.

ABOUT THAT TRUMP STATUE — Over the weekend we told you that one of the stars of CPAC — that enormous statue of Trump — was made in Mexico. Well, it turns out there’s more to the story. Artist TOMMY ZEGAN had told Playbook he hand-crafted the 200-pound, chrome-painted fiberglass statue with the help of three men in Rosarito, Mexico, where he lives as an American expat. He said he then shipped it to Florida and transported it to CPAC in a U-Haul.

But one of Zegan’s business partners, JOSE MAURICIO MENDOZA,contacted us Tuesday to say that Zegan omitted a major part of the supply chain. While Zegan is based in Mexico, the piece was manufactured at the Shijiazhuang D & Z Sculpture Co. factory in China. “Everything is made in China,” Mendoza told Playbook. “I want to be straight, because if I’m going to sell these statues, they have to be true.” Mendoza dismissed Zegan’s claims that he’s the creative mind behind the sculpture, showing us two Trump bobbleheads that were the inspiration for the statue. “I was the architect of this,” Mendoza said. Zegan’s name was used, Mendoza added, because “no one is going to buy ‘Jose’ stuff, at least not a Donald Trump statue.” As for Zegan, he admitted to Playbook that he left out the true origin of the statue’s journey.

I'm reading that it looks as though the Manhattan DA is focusing on a loan that Trump had partially written off - some 50m dollars worth - the thing is, that "letting off" counts as taxable income so he should have paid tax on that 50m but it doesn't look as though he did, in fact it looks as though he created a spurious debt to another Trump company so he could point to the debt and say that he still owed it and it hadn't been written off. So he might be fucked.... or maybe it's all bollocks, who knows?

They leaning on the Weisselberg family to get the Trump money man to flip... this charming story just emerged.
However, Jennifer Weisselberg thinks it’s unlikely her ex-father-in-law will play ball, saying: “He has more feelings and adoration for Donald than for his wife... For Donald, it’s a business. But for Allen, it’s a love affair.” As an example, she recalled to Mayer being hit on by Trump in front of her then father-in-law—at a shivah for Allen’s deceased mother—and said with incredulity: “He didn’t stand up for me!” Jennifer Weisselberg also said that, at the same event to mourn the dead, Trump showed people photographs of naked women with him on a yacht.
