I'm intrigued by this talk of "mutilation" or "defacement" of the documents. I'm imagining scribbled cartoon cocks; a 'sexy' stick-lady with big round boobs, labelled 'Ivanka'; two stick men, labelled 'me and Vlad', drawn holding hands inside a heart...

There are strict protocols for declassifying documents, procedures that have to be followed for each individual document, official forms that have to be filled out, filed and recorded for each one doc before they are reclassified. The right are making it sound like Trump could just declassify a dozen boxes of classified documents with the wave of a hand, like the Pope sprinkling holy water blessings.

Warning Signs of a Cult
From The Cult Education Institute

1) The leader is always right.
2) Criticism of the leader or questioning the leader is considered persecution.
3) Anything the leader does is justified, no matter how harmful it may be.
4) The leader is the only source of truth, everybody else is lying.
5) Disciples must be devoted to the leader, never question him.

Also, in case you missed it yesterday

A New York State judge ruled Friday that a criminal fraud and tax evasion prosecution against the Trump Organization and its former CFO, Allen Weisselberg, can proceed.
Weisselberg and the company asked a judge in February to dismiss all 15 counts charged against them. Judge Juan Merchan dismissed one of several tax fraud counts against the Trump Organization, but allowed all others to remain.

what a surprise

A lawyer for former President Trump signed a statement in June that all files marked as classified and held in boxes in storage at Mar-a-Lago were sent back. But an F.B.I. search this week found more, raising questions as to whether Mr. Trump or his team were fully forthcoming with investigators about the material.

What if Trump baited the FBI into raiding him by dangling declassified docs as classified. It would be a great way to Garner public support for the massive deswampification that is critical for America's survival.

I don't get why people keep saying this kind of thing, has there ever been a time when Trump ever did anything even remotely like this?

Has anyone looked at Gateway Pundit at all? They will be discussing the same event as we might do on here but the assumptions they make, the things they say and the completely ridiculous twists of logic and lies that they take for granted mean that the debate looks very different to how it might if it involved sane people. I know that it's often said rather easily of people that one disagrees with, that they are living in a different reality, but when two people talk about the same event and one version of the debate involves completely different people and has a totally different cause and effect and is ultimately part of another whole narrative that seemingly relates to nothing that we've seen or which has been reported in the press or which can be inferred from what has - in fact you could barely tell it was the same event being discussed except by the name they use to refer to it - which will probably be something like "FBI raid on Mar-a-Lago Hoax" - then I think that that is really the only way to describe what is going on. The true Trump cultists live in a different reality which is a whole world with its history and lore and villains and good guys etc etc sort of like Middle Earth or something, and if you live in that world (or think you do I suppose would be more accurate) then it's not that much of a stretch to think that Trump waved his hands to magically declassify the documents and then used them to set a trap which Pelosi and Obama walked right into by sending their FBI minions with a search warrant. And then when enough of you accept that as the most likely correct version of events it becomes one of the assumptions that everyone makes and which you can use to start building even more mountains of madness.

With Q there was a guy who at least started the ball rolling and must have basically known that it was all bollocks and that he was using it to manipulate people. Here though, it's kind of interesting in that I'm not sure that that is what is happening, there is just a bunch of mad people egging each other on to create more and more of this nonsense. A self-perpetuating machine to create total bollocks (albeit primed by QAnon I guess), I feel that while ultimately the Q thing did totally come off the tracks, the new right-wing fantasy machine never had any and could end up anywhere.

The speed with which they come up with new and contradictory justifications is stunning. It seems that they've given up on the documents being declassified now and are saying they are covered by Executive Privilege, oh and just for good measure the FBI agents involved in the raid ore the exact ones being investigated by Durham (is that still going on? And does it involve the FBI at all?)

How can Executive Privilege save an ex-pres anyhow?

It's the "just found out" bit that really kills me, do we think that before that he totally thought Trump was guilty but he's just found this out (how?) and changed his mind. Surely he means, I've just made up a new reason for Trump to not to be guilty cos the old one was bollocks.

it's all a crock of shit

“What he doesn’t have the right to do is possess the documents; they are not his,” Jason R. Baron, a former director of litigation at the National Archives for more than a decade, said. “There should be no presidential records at Mar-a-Lago, whether they are classified or unclassified or subject to executive privilege or subject to attorney-client privilege.” Documents covered by executive privilege are meant to be kept within the government.

Can’t believe this saturated-fat blimp is still alive. Anyway, the bookies are always worth a check

Oh, and here is RIchie's Trump Trivia question of the day, regarding that film above, for those of you haven't seen it (and without looking it up obviously) - who is the actor that played Trump?

For future reference, you might want to give image files names other than "DeppTrump1.jpg" and so on when asking us "Who is this actor playing Donald Trump?"
Well I mean you'd probably want to avoid asking that question again anyway, since we now know the answer, but you know what I mean.
