Have you seen theses clips from the Students For Trump rally? Firstly it's surprising to me that there even is such a thing, at least instinctively, I mean, when you think about it of course there are loads of right-wing students, it's not at all the preserve of the left even if they have traditionally been more visible or something I guess. Anyway, the frightening bit is when he talks about names for the virus and finally says "Kung-flu" and the students break out in this boorish and hateful cheering. Urggh. It's revolting.
Most offensive thing about this is that it's not even a decent pun.

Trump was here completely bamboozled by this vicious gotcha question that Hannity hit him with... really surprised and, I guess, a little bit impressed (grudgingly) that at this stage he's wiling to challenge Trump with such penetrating and tricky lines of attack.

HANNITY: Let's talk about a second term. If you hear in 131 days from now, at some point in the night or early morning, we can now project Donald J. Trump has been reelected the 45th president of the United States, let's talk.

How do you -- what's at stake in this election as you compare and contrast? And what is -- what are your top priority items for a second term?

TRUMP: Well, one of the things that will be really great -- you know, the word experience is still good. I always say talent is more important than experience, I've always said that. But, the word experience is a very important word. It's a very important meaning.

I never did this before. I never slept over in Washington. I was in Washington, I think, 17 times, all of a sudden I'm president of the United States. You know the story, I'm riding down Pennsylvania Avenue with our first lady and I say, this is great.

But I didn't know very many people in Washington. It wasn't my thing. I was from Manhattan, from New York.

Now, I know everybody and I have great people in the Administration. You make some mistakes like, you know, an idiot like Bolton. All he wanted to do was drop bombs on everybody. You don't have to drop bombs on everybody. You don't have to kill people --

Or, an alternative, contrarian view on that... this guy is obviously not in command of his faculties and and not a single second should be wasted in removing him from power immediately, putting him in a bath chair and tell him he's controlling the earth in a crucial battle against aliens from the planet Puerto Rico.

You would think that as someone who wants to be president - and who is in fact (well in theory) doing the job right now - might have some idea why. But I think the problem is actually deeper than that here. From that response it seems to me that Trump has no idea what the president is or how it's related to him...

how many times have we all thought "THIS is the thing that will be his downfall".

his answer to Hannity shouldn't surprise anyone who's paid attention, really. his whole story has been told a million times: he don't know or care about government, governing, doesn't have any political beliefs or vision. he's blowhard real estate developer/reality TV star who ended up as president, all he thinks about is his popularity with his base. has never done anything to expand the base, and in fact continually does and says things that drive away potential new supporters.

I won't say he's toast because you never know what can happen in the next four months, but things are certainly going in the wrong direction for trump.

Yeah that was a joke about people (mainly myself) who've said "he can't survive this one" a hundred times.
But if he's turned a blind eye to Putin bribing Afghans to kill US soldiers then that seems... fairly bad.

he looks bad/clueless if he denies knowledge of it, and looks horrible if he was told and has done nothing.

Yeah so he's claiming - preposterously - that he wasn't briefed on it... was the best they could come up with after a day of thinking about it.

Did you see that he's tweeted (and then deleted) a video that shows one of his MAGA-hatted supporters yelling "White power"?

can you image a CEO of any corporations doing even 10% of what he does in an average week? they'd have been out of their asses long ago. unfortunately, we don't have the senate votes to fire him.

Or a rank-and-file employee, for that matter. I think a big part of Trump's popularity is as a wish-fulfilment character for conservative white men - well, conservative white people in general, but especially men - because he routinely says things that would have them hauled over the coals by HR in five seconds flat, and gets away with it.

Similar thing with Johnson in this country, although to a less extreme degree.

I was trying to find the posts where Trump had won and we were all going "oh fuck, craner was right!"

But I think that was in the election thread

It was deep analysis, pal!

"i went on a road trip through the deep south with my dad. we were eating cheese grits, macaroni salad, tater tots and syrup waffles in a roadside diner when i had the epiphany 'dad' i shouted, grabbing his arm with all the hysteria of sudden revelation. 'Trump is going to take it!'"

Corpsey wanted us to start a podcast in this thread.

It's weird reading this thread back, the debate and tone in 2015 seems so reasonable and sedate, not just compared to now, but also compared to 2005.
