I hate all this shit
Wayne Dupree, a far-right radio host whom Trump has retweeted, said the president had intentionally “triggered” the political class with his suggestion. “Now watch them trip over their ankles until Sunday morning television programs slamming him for even ‘suggesting out loud’ that the election be delayed,” he tweeted, adding, “FYI. A POTUS can't delay an election, it takes an act of Congress.”

“POTUS is quite likely baiting a hysteric response,” tweeted Fred Lucas, a White House correspondent at The Daily Signal, a conservative, Heritage Foundation-backed news site.

Of course people react to what he says, he's the president of the United States and leader of the free world apparently, when he says something people are gonna talk about it. POTUS isn't supposed to spend his time talking bollocks and then going "Ah, got you!" is the issue here.

And let's be honest, if he thought he was gonna lose the election and he could avoid that by delaying it then he would. It's actually necessary for everyone to slap it down every time he comes out with this shite or else the stupid lump of lard will start thinking he really can do it. He has to be treated like a spoiled and recalcitrant child at all times and you have to assume the worst - sometimes it turns out that the reaction wasn't necessary but that's hardly something for right-wing commentators to crow about - the reason for people responding like that is cos so often he actually does do the very worst thing possible. People assume Trump will act like a cunt in the future cos he has in the past but this time he didn't that much - ha, fooled you!

I know I know. But he is the president and whoever holds that place, from time to time they are gonna be reported on as though they are speaking with the weight of the president's office rather than that of Trump.

Think of the other scenario... Trump floats idea of delaying election and no-one reacts to it, mentions it or says how stupid it is. That would be inconceivable and also worse wouldn't it?

Yeah, but you're talking as though the people who support him are consistent and operating in good faith. They don't care.

Oh sure. I'm just saying really that even when Trump does something to distract us and we know that's why he does it, we can't just ignore it cos he's the fucking president. But yeah we should be able to keep two (or more) things in our mind at once and the worst ever economic decline is definitely something we should keep thinking and talking (shouting) about cos it's more important.

Dems should be making more hay with the fact that Dershowitz is clearly connected to (and likely implicated with) Epstein and was also Trump's lawyer in the impeachment. I mean Fox always say "A Clinton connected businessman" when they mention Epstein so why aren't the good guys prepared to fight a little bit dirty too? They wouldn't even be lying.

I saw something yesterday that pretty much sums it up, which is that Democrats want anyone implicated with Epstein investigated, while Republicans want Democrats implicated with Epstein investigated.

I know that every is happening so fast right now and so much is going on that in one sense this barely merits a mention.... I think yet another investigation of Trump and his tax returns and the fraudulent nature of his business dealings and so on should be note somewhere here at least even if it is simply a matter of throwing it on the pile with everything else.
The Manhattan district attorney, Cyrus Vance, has told a judge he ought to be granted access to Donald Trump’s tax records, given the public reports of “extensive and protracted criminal conduct at the Trump Organization”.
Vance is seeking eight years of the president’s personal and corporate tax records and has revealed little about why. But in a court filing on Monday, Vance’s lawyers made clear that the scope of their grand jury investigation is far wider than just the so-called “hush-money” payments to women to silence them about alleged affairs with Trump, and may also include possible bank and insurance fraud.
The supreme court has already ruled that the Manhattan grand jury can see Trump’s tax returns, rejecting the president’s lawyers’ arguments that he cannot be criminally investigated while he is in office. But under grand jury secrecy rules, it remains unlikely the returns will become public prior to the November election.

Imagine he gets re-elected. Maybe it won't happen, but plan for the worst is the old adage.

There was a post about standards of living in the US and the unsustainable decompression of that world-view as it drops elsewhere here. Inevitable, unpalatable to some and incendiary to Trump's base. It's a depressing shit show that a foreigner can't help but rubberneck on if you've lived there.

Feudalism never went away, it just went online, but this organisation was an education in grass roots change. Strategise intelligently in creating access to healthcare and ninjas at spanning community bridges. A far more genuine cause for hope than a poster advertising such. Virginia outside the beltway can be old money and hardcore Republican red state demographically

it's almost impossible to imagine Biden as president. mind you it would have been a stretch to imagine Major as prime minister.

I've heard quite a few people say that in person he was actually quite charismatic. But that's the power of the insult, Spitting Image nailed him perfectly with the grey puppet and it was inescapable.
That's also something that Trump has a knack for - crooked Hillary, Lyin' Ted, Little Marco and so on, now personally I wouldn't say that any of those are amazingly witty but they have stuck as a rule and once branded there is no way out. It's one of those things where the victim can't really fight back cos you just sound ridiculous saying "Don't call me Little Marco" and so whatever he says normally ends up being uncontested, add in an army of cowardly sidekicks - like Nelson has in The Simpsons but numbering in the millions instead of just two - and it's not really surprising they gain some traction.
Also with his insults, as has often been noted, they basically accuse people of his own faults. Is Hillary crooked? Not as crooked as Trump. Does Ted lie? Maybe so but Trump is an acknowledged and probably unbeatable champion in this field. Trump isn't actually small of course but he does lie about his height (claiming to be six foot three I believe, possibly in an attempt to make his BMI fall just below the 'morbidly obese' category that Pelosi put him in) and his tiny hands etc are well documented.
Now though, with Sleepy Joe, it feels to me as though his powers are failing a little... you see/hear his cohort of little bullies repeating it but it feels as though their hearts are not quite in it somehow. Various possible reasons for that... I'm gonna make one guess.
Trump attacking someone for their mental decline doesn't really seem much different on the surface from his attacking someone's honesty or their business dealing in that it's obviously hugely hypocritical even if true - but, Trump's lies and convictions etc were much more abstract for the average Trump voter. How many of them really cared about Trump university, or his running black people out of flats illegally or even could understand how declaring bankruptcy could be a way to cheat people out of money owed?
But now, with Biden wisely just moving out of the way and allowing Trump all the room he needs to fuck up bigly, I have a feeling that seeing someone repeatedly calling his opponent sleepy and senile IS undermined if the person saying it is increasingly slurring their words, can't walk down a ramp, can't drink a glass of water, thinks that Vietnam was a swift and swippian US victory, can't grasp basic facts about the pandemic, needs a playschool level bar chart to explain to him how many have died, falls apart as though under enormous pressure at the slightest follow up question etc etc
In short it's a lot harder to accuse your opponent of being guilty of your failings if those failings are not an abstract idea but are something you keep repeatedly demonstrating are yours on national tv.

And that interview yesterday was amazing. It kinda felt to me like a watershed in that maybe people around him allowed him to do it. Maybe there is a recognition that they have sailed as far as they can in this boat (appointed a load of judges etc) and that there is now no point in trying to support him, so they are gonna let the world see him as he is while rapidly moving as far away as possible.
Perhaps that's wishful thinking, but why would anyone who wants him to win, have allowed that carcrash yesterday? Yesterday and today I looked through twitter loads to see who was sticking up for him and how they would do that... but really I couldn't find anyone. Major right-wing commentators who constantly pretend to see something good when it's not there seemed to be able to tell that this was completely unspinnable and they were just ignoring it. All I could find was pages and pages of people laughing at it, as a whole or at one specific bit or another, there were lots of people listing the maddest bits and the greatest lies and so on, and very very few Trump supporters daring to say "No I thought he gave a really good interview that showed his command of the situation and his excellence at thinking on his feet".
Today that has changed a little as obviously someone has made a decision and they have decided on a party line. Which is basically to say "The main story here is why won't Biden allow this kind of fierce interrogation?" and I've seen a lot of people calling it an ambush filled with gotcha questions* but still no-one can really stick up for this as it is.

The main defence now reads something like this.
Some notes on a cruel and dishonest ambush interview which was stuffed with gotcha questions such as this one below and which has predictably been taken out of context by unpatriotic godless dems who want to sell us to Russia exactly like Trump doesn't

Trump: There are those that say, you can test too much. You do know that.
Swan: Who says that?
Trump: Oh, just read the manuals. Read the books.
Swan: Manuals? What manuals?
Trump: Read the books. Read the books.
Swan: What books?

Unsurprisingly Trump was stumped by that - who wouldn't be? It's a devilishly cunning response that I'm sure Swan had prepared in advance so that he could lead Trump down a breadcrumb trail to this unanswerable conundrum. Yes, you do have to admire the meticulously crafted dilemma into which he lured his victim and the sleight of hand by which he did it, and of course any viewer is going to be affected by the beautifully tailored false simplicity of what has occurred. And there were countless such questions!
But, let's think about it dispassionately for a second, is it fair for an interviewer to trap a president so disrespectfully? Do we want to live in a world in which a cunning interviewer can use all the advantages at his disposal and twist what is going on so much that we actually see the truth? Reality cannot be allowed to display its liberal bias so blatantly in this fashion - imagine the effect it could have on the morale of the USA the greatest country in the world.
And when you understand the mechanism of these questions and the intent behind them, as I have laid out above, you will quickly realise that the interview was completely unfair, as, apart from all the communications between his office and HBO way in advance, Trump had virtually no warning of what to expect, and of course no-one can expect such a busy and successful businessman to learn all the tiny facts of every little thing so (unless you count all the experts and stuff who brief him which I don't) there was nothing he could have done to prepare for this sneaky and brutal kind of attack. I think the interview itself should be stricken from the record and no-one should be ever allowed to see it or talk it about again, that's the only way to protect our freedoms. And anyway, what about Sleep Joe? Imagine if he'd been grilled so ruthlessly, he probably would have got the lost on the way to the studio but if not he would have totally crumbled under this attack and admitted that he wants to sell us China and make it illegal to fly Old Glory - that's clearly the main thing we should all take away from this.

the most stunning thing about that interview was that it's taken this long for a journalist to call him out on his BS. I don't get it, why isn't he pressed into a corner everytime he deviates from a subject, especially when he's in a room full of journalists. they should gang up, follow through with the one question, repeat it over and over again until you get an interview like this.
