that map triangulates based on all the sightings, and lo and behold, it seems that the explosion occurred (not in greenwich but)... right over the little village of Aldermaston, notable only for it's top secret armaments plant
it was already in my mind tbh - it's not even the first ufo i've seen that turned out to be a military exercise :( me and @HannahB saw amazing psychedelic lights in the sky out in the california sierra in 2001, which turned out to be a icbm

so better expect to see those little figures on that map shipped off one by one to the black sites on salisbury plain sharpish :( cheerio

Yeah we saw them. What’s icbm? 2001 is 20 years ago, nothing’s happened since

Niu said FRB190520B is the first repeating FRB detected by FAST, and is only the second repeating FRB with a compact persistent radio source after discovery of the first repeater FRB121102A by US Arecibo Radio Telescope in 2016.

Niu told the Global Times that FRB190520B's behavior is similar to FRB121102A, but it's just more extreme as it is persistently active and has a more complex electromagnetic environment.

"The big surprise for me was realizing that the new FRB seems to be such a perfect 'twin' to an earlier discovery," Casey Law, an astronomer at Caltech and a co-author who led the VLA program, told Space.com.

"Perhaps some would have preferred to say that the first such association [between an FRB and radio source] was a coincidence, because it was hard to explain. Now the second example shows that this is a real and critical part of the life of an FRB."

Ghosts in space. Love all this shit

The galaxies depicted in the main press release are magnificent, they almost defy you to look away

Their numbers and variety, colours, curved light in some examples (the whole image is warp n weft), completely spellbinding

And here we are, on a grain a sand circling a ball of fire, with Voyageur 73,000 years away from Proxima Centauri. Let’s face it, we’re never going to expand beyond the solar system so might as well enjoy the views
